The New Incentives organisation has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Nigerian government to increase the demand of immunization through conditional cash transfer. In a bid to further the well-being of Nigerians, both parties decided to enter into this understanding.

The MoU was signed and implemented on Friday, 10th May 2019, between the federal government represented by the Honourable Minister/Deputy Chairman, Ministry of Budget & National Planning, Udoma Udo Udoma (CON) and the senior manager, New Incentives-All Babies Are Equal Initiative (NI-ABAE Initiative), Dr. Obinna Ebirim.

The NI-ABAE Initiative which was established in 2014 and registered in the health sector with the Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH) and the Ministry of Budget & National Planning (MBNP), is a non-profit, voluntary, non-religious, nonpartisan, non-tribal Nigerian community based organization.

The health initiative focuses on demand creation for routine immunization in Nigeria through conditional cash transfer (₦500 for the first four mandatory immunization visits and ₦2,000 for the last visit). The impact of the program will be evaluated through an independent Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT).

NI-ABAE Initiative supports routine immunization system by engaging in conditional cash transfer, social mobilization and defaulter tracking to raise demand for immunization in primary health care facilities. The organisation also supports the State Primary Health Care Development Agencies (SPHCDAs) in some Nigerian states by engaging in vaccine supply review, aiding top up vaccine transportation.

As at 15th April 2019, NI-ABAE Initiative has disbursed 431,644 cash transfers to caregivers of infants eligible for routine immunization in their intervention clinics worth N324,007,500 and will continue to raise demand for routine immunization in this manner.

The MoU which will strengthen routine immunization system.in the country - will remain in force for a period of three (3) years subject to renewal for similar periods.
