It's easy to forget just how young Liverpool duo Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez still are.

Having cemented his place in Jurgen Klopp's backline last year, the former is set to feature in his second Champions League Final at just 20 years of age.

After featuring for England at last summer's World Cup, helping the Three Lions finish fourth, Alexander-Arnold was named in the PFA Team of the Year for the first time after registering a record-breaking 12 assists in the Premier League this season. It surely won't be his only appearance.

Meanwhile, only injury has denied Gomez from Champions League, World Cup and PFA Team of the Year appearances.

The 21-year-old was first-choice for club and country at the heart of defence before a broken leg sidelined him back in December.

Now back to full fitness, he will be desperate to make up for lost time when Liverpool face Tottenham Hotspur in next month's Champions League Final.

Both players could taste international glory this summer too after being included in Gareth Southgate's provisional 27-man squad for the UEFA Nations League Finals.

Jadon Sancho is the only player younger than Alexander-Arnold to make the cut, while Declan Rice and Marcus Rashford are the only other players named who are younger than Gomez.

Both Liverpool stars will be hopeful of making Southgate's final 23-man squad, despite England's semi-final clash with the Netherlands coming just days after the Champions League Final.

However, both players would have been eligible to feature for England Under-21s at next month's European Championships in Italy and San Marino.

While Southgate included the Liverpool duo in his senior squad, he resisted the urge to hand call-ups to the likes of James Maddison, Phil Foden and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

When quizzed about his squad selection, Southgate explained: "We’ve taken so many players from the Under-21s early that we wanted the likes of Foden, Maddison, Mount, Wan-Bissaka, Sessegnon, to have a tournament together.

"It will be good for them to get that tournament experience again. We think, for them, that is the next stage of their development.

"Myself and Steve Holland will be going to that tournament and we will have some training sessions with that group over the next couple of weeks. So it’s a really joined-up view to the future.

"We’re also mindful that we don’t need to rush the Under-21s.

"If they’re progressing well, we’ll move them if there’s the opportunity and it’s the right thing."

Maddison enjoyed a breath-taking debut season in the top-flight with Leicester City, while Foden and Mount have been lauded by staff at Manchester City and Chelsea as their next big things.

Meanwhile, Wan-Bissaka and Sessegnon have both been tipped to make £50million+ moves this summer should they decide to move on from Crystal Palace and Fulham respectively.

But the fact there was no question of Alexander-Arnold or Gomez going to the Under-21s Euros proves just how highly-rated the duo are by club and country.
Having fitted into Liverpool's defence with ease, it won't be long before the pair cement their places in Southgate's starting XI.

Fans better get used to the sight of them, Alexander-Arnold and Gomez are well on their way to being prominent players for club and country for the next decade.

With Champions League and Nations League Finals' winner's medals in their sights, this is just the beginning.
