Looking at the pictures, it seems substandard products were used in the construction process and it is possible that due diligence and engaging the right professional were not adhered to sad

Because it has collapsed....
Surely it cannot still be 4 stories if all the stories are lying on the floor

This country ehn! Anybody can just wake up one day, learn bricklaying (some even start as "mason servers"wink and before you say jack, they arrogate themselves the title of engineers and start building rubbish!

I pity Nigeria. The rate of building collapse especially in the south east in ten years time will leave everybody in distress.

This happens even in the health sector. Anybody can just open a shop any time and start selling drugs to just anybody without prescription! You then ask, why do we spend money to train healthcare providers Our ignorant politicians don't know that allowing such practices contribute substantially to why our healthcare sector is so poor while life expectancy is dwindling. Of course, they won't know the consequences of indiscriminate use of drugs like antibiotics et al and how they contribute to disease burden!

We learnt these things from the west but failed to learn how they regulate the practices!

Somebody would argue that engaging in those quackery keeps the people employed, but there are many other ventures those people can exploit and make a living from. Must they engage in ventures that directly affect lives without going through the legally prescribed trainings and subjecting themselves to regulation Must they cut corners

Naija matter tire person sha!

RIP to the dead

Just came back from that place. 6 workers and the new engineer were trapped. 3 workers have been rescued, all alive. Another one is dead. Remaining 3 that are yet to be rescued.

The last worker to be rescued has died. As the caterpillar was excavating the building, they found a detached leg.

Quack engineers
First, I'm sure you know that not everyone addressed as an Engineer is one. Even a road-side motorcycle repairer is addressed as one.

Hope Anambra people have not started building substandard houses like Lagos people?

Lagos had no record of building structural defects until Ibo were upgraded to building material suppliers and contractors.
