Below are some interesting statistics from the UEFA Champions League since its rebranding in the 1992/93 season.

1. Marseille(France) is the first team to win the UEFA Champions League in the modern era(1992/93 to date). Marseille defeated AC Milan in the final by a lone goal.

2. Real Madrid(Spain) has won the trophy 7 times(1998, 2000, 2002, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018), making it the most successful club in the modern era. Barcelona(Spain) has 4 trophies(2006, 2009, 2011, 2015), AC Milan(Italy) has 3 trophies(1994, 2003, 2007), Bayern Munich(Germany) has 2 trophies(2001, 2013), Manchester United(England) has 2 trophies(1999, 2008). Marseille(France), Ajax(Netherland), Juventus(Italy), Borussia Dortmund(Germany), FC Porto(Portugal), Liverpool(England), Inter Milan(Italy) and Chelsea(England) have all won 1 trophy each in 1993, 1995, 1996, 1997, 2004, 2005, 2010, 2012 respectively.

3. Laliga(Spain) has won a combined total of 11 trophies (Real Madrid 7 – 1998, 2000, 2002, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018. Barcelona 4 – 2006, 2009, 2011, 2015) which is 42% of the total trophies (26). Serie A(Italy) has won a combined total of 5 trophies( AC Milan 3, Juventus 1, Inter Milan 1). EPL(England) has won a combined total of 4 trophies(Manchester United 2, Liverpool 1, Chelsea 1).

4. Juventus(Italy) has been runner-up 5 times (1997, 1998, 2003, 2015, 2017), making it the club with more losses in the finals. Bayern Munich(Germany) and AC Milan(Italy) have been runner-up 3 times. Liverpool(England), Manchester United(England), Valencia(Spain) and Athletico Madrid(Spain) have all been runner-up twice.

5. Serie A(Italy) has lost a total of 8 finals (Juventus – 1997, 1998, 2003, 2015, 2017. AC Milan – 1993, 1995, 2005), making it the league that has lost more finals. EPL(England) has lost a total of 6 finals(Manchester United 2, Liverpool 2, Arsenal 1, Chelsea 1).

6. The final with the biggest goal margin is the 1994 final match between AC Milan(Italy) and Barcelona(Spain). AC Milan defeated Barcelona 4 – 0.

7. Only one final ended goalless and it is the 2003 final between Juventus(Italy) and AC Milan(Italy).

8. A total of 7 finals which represents 26% of the total finals ended in penalties. 9. Barcelona and Manchester United are the only 2 teams to have won the champions league unbeaten. Barcelona did it in 2005/06 season while Manchester United did it in 1998/99 and 2007/08 seasons.

10. Manchester United is the only team in the Champions League era to have won the trophy going unbeaten twice. Manchester United had 5 wins and 6 draws in the 1998/99 season. In the 2007/08 season, Manchester United had 9 wins and 4 draws.
