Growing Disquiet In Lagos Judiciary Over Alleged Underhand Deals by Mediaguru55: 12:41pm On May 30, 2019
There is growing disquiet in the Lagos Judiciary as outgoing CJ of Lagos Honourable Justice Opeyemi Oke seeks to maintain control over the judiciary from retirement.
Usually reliable sources have stated that the newly established Lagos judicial institute is to serve as her control base. Oke has reportedly appointed a crony to oversee the institute but intends to operate as a Consultant on a very juicy contract. The judicial institute was recently launched with fanfare at the Judiciary recreation club in Ikeja GRA which has been hastily converted into a temporary site by the CJ.
Some senior members of the Ikeja Bar who have been in a war of attrition with Oke over recent steps she had taken on Court rules claimed that they were aware of the developments and would take appropriate action in due course to expose any underhand deals.
Oke was appointed Chief Judge in 2017 and is due to retire on 10th June 2019 when she would have attained the statutory age of 65 . She had reportedly nursed intentions to elongate her term but that ambition was frustrated by the sudden removal of former CJN Onoghen who was one of her ardent supporters.
