Oyo State Government has banned the state branch of the Nigerian Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).

This was stated by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Chief Bisi Ilaka, while addressing journalists on Friday at the Governor’s Office.

“After today’s deliberation with security stakeholders’ meeting, involving security chiefs and the government, we have resolved to proscribe the Nigerian Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) until further notice,” Ilaka said.

“All activities of the Union remain illegal henceforth and we urge the people of the state to go about their lawful duties without fear of molestation, as a
combined security task force in every community of the state, have been charged to take control and maintain peace and order,” he added.

Ilaka also noted that all parks in the state have been taken over by the state government with immediate effect.

It's all a ploy and was once adopted by the governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki. In 2016, similar ban was placed on the union led by one "Nomoless" and Akugbe ventures led by Tony Kabaka (who celebrated having "1Billion" ..Yes !!! 1billion in 2013 during the Adams Oshiomole regime) but since 2018, we've been seeing members of the NURTW collecting revenue in the same state. It's all politics. Since 1999 when Lucky Igbinedion made one Bob Izua famous and rich through the same scheme, Adams followed the same template and made Nomoless and Kabaka rich. Though Obaseki tried to tow a different line but these guys have been so entrenched in our politics that they now seem untouchable. From Lagos State to Ondo State, to Edo State, to Oyo state etc, No governor with a second term in mind can truly proscribe the group

This is very good and should be applauded.
