POLITICAL POWER :

"In about a year plus, the good people of Edo state would go to the polls to elect who governs them. Unfortunately, their choice is limited to the candidates thrown at them by political parties, especially as independent candidacy is yet to be supported by the constitution.

With respect to the forthcoming elections in the state, political bigwigs, and heavyweights have started aligning forces for the showdown that is to come. This has led to a growing dispute between the incumbent Governor and his immediate predecessor, who doubled also as his godfather.

At the end of this war, many will be politically beaten, some will be buried, while a few will be the beneficiaries. From the political pundits and reports on the street, these are the rumoured persons to whom the political pendulum of the APC may swing in their favour.

First on the list is Rt. Hon. Pius Odubu, the immediate past deputy Governor of the Edo state. Reports have it that his interest is being peddled by Hon Samson Osagie and that the later onslaught on the incumbent Governor is not unconnected with the governorship ambition of the former deputy Governor.

The Orhionmwon based politician still feel offended to have lost favour with his former boss, as he sided the incumbent governor in 2016. With the current feud between the governor and his godfather, Odubu's camp, led by Hon. Samson Osagie, hope to latch on it and sway the party's choice to his favour.

On the other hand, a Retired General is also hoping to get his pound of flesh, as he felt belittled and insulted by the governor when he was accused by the governor for being the mole that caused their defeat to the opposition in the Presidential, Senate and House of Assembly elections.

As soon as the feud between the governor and his godfather went public, the General started plotting on how to take advantage of the situation. His moves are clandestine as a former military man, but as pundits, our ears are on the ground, even when the meetings are held in the dead of the night.

Next person that may likely be a beneficiary of this political battle is the ever diplomatic Engr. Chris Ogiemwonyi. Though the taciturn and reserved politician is yet to make his position public in the ongoing political feud, rumour has it that he had never for once buried his governorship ambition despite his defeat in 2016.

Whether there was a feud between the governor and his godfather or not, the Engineer has always make plans to throw his hat to the ring again. But with the feud, pundits say his chances are high, considering the fact that his conservative nature, as a man of few words, that has made him have lesser enemies, aside those that feel threatened by his ambition.

Why some persons from the street prefer fresh blood, the power brokers seem to be taking us to 2015, when the national king makers decided to bring back one of their own in the person of President Muhammadu Buhari, after they lost confidence in Goodluck Jonathan's ability to defend their interest.

As it stands today, we may likely not be seeing a fresh face as we saw in Godwin Obaseki in 2016. And if we are to recycle, which among these three do you think would be sellable for APC as a party?

Power rarely ends up in the hands of those who starts a revolution/agitation or even of those who further it; Power sticks to those who bring revolution/agitation to a conclusive end.

Its just my little perspective or opinion about the emerging scenario on the Edo political front.There seems to be an emerging new bloc of power brokers in the Edo APC and it seems the leaders who midwifed the continuity of this present Obaseki administration are being eased out tactically by the emerging power bloc.Time will tell,and the political terrain its surely going to be interesting in the coming days
