Yoruba groups rally for autonomy, against insecurity

A coalition of Yoruba groups will on Tuesday hold rallies across the South West states in solidarity with the epochal June 12, a day dedicated to sacrifices made by many Nigerians following the annulment of the historic election believed to have been won by late business mogul, Chief M.K.O Abiola.
A close source to the organisers claimed that no fewer than 5000 participants will attend the rallies in the different states of the South West.
The rally tagged “Oto Gee” (Enough is Enough), a slogan employed in Kwara state during the campaign to oust the dynasty of the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki is expected to drum support for the restructuring of Nigeria and Yoruba self-determination.
The rallies will hold on Wednesday June 12.
Irohinoodua was informed that following series of meetings held in Ikeja and at the private home of Afenifere chieftain, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, the groups under the auspices of Yoruba Summit Group, (YSG) agreed to hold rallies in the State capitals of the South West States of Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Ekiti, Ondo and Lagos States. Representatives however will be drawn from all the South West states including Kogi and Kwara.
“We are coming together to draw attention to the situation in the entire South West where insecurity is gradually becoming the norm. We are worried about the kidnapping of people in the South West. We are worried about the implications on human lives and the environment. We are concerned about the fallout of the kidnapping and the implication for the wellbeing of our people”, Mr Olu Adekola a member of the YSG told Irohinoodua on Friday.
Our correspondent was informed that the listed speakers are Aare Ona Kakanfo, Aare Gani Adams, Prof ‘Banji Akintoye, Dr Amos Akingba, Chief Kole Omololu, Mr Eric Oluwole and many others drawn from the self-determination groups across the Yoruba territories.
