I’ve never seen a situation where a weak grip on writing materials led to terrible handwriting.
If a child has terrible handwriting they either learn to correct it later or the parents and tutors should buy them calligraphy exercise books.

Story time: As a six year old I used to grip pencils between my thumb and middle finger.
I never saw anything wrong with the habit.
My handwriting wasn’t bad but was average in appearance.
I however saw all my mates held pencils between thumbs and index fingers so I quickly changed orientation to behave like them.
Another case was when I felt my handwriting did not meet my taste.
I was seven years old at the time.
Me and a few friends compiled pages penned by the best writers in class and copied them, forming our own handwritings.

I doubt it if you are a teacher and you've ever taught the nursery class and have worked with toddlers. Its evident from your submission. Take your time to read on it. The search engines are effective tools to deploy in doing that.
