TASK FOR 9TH ASSEMBLY Glory be to Almighty God for seeing us through the elections. Though, there were records of one or other forms of irregularities such as malfunctioning card readers, underage voting,non-use of card readers, maiming of voters, and ballot box snatching etc. Above all we did not experience a large scale violence as witness in 2011.My fellow course mate in Zaria who were in school then had a bad experience and could relate better. Elections are over and it is time to get the work of nation building that drive development and growth that will translate to better life for we Nigerians done. It is time to drop behind us election "noise" if I may use the word and get busy. It is time to leave behind us our party differences and be more concern about how to lift majority of Nigerians out of the poverty circle and give hope to the downtrodden and hopeless. And for me I think the 9th assembly have a lot of work to do. I will try to save us much of the staggering statistics that paint the situation more hopeless, but with deliberate and conscious policies backed by political will, with sacrifice on the privilege few political leaders I think we will get there. By Tuesday, the new assembly will be inaugurated and I want to believe that they are very much aware of the terrible economy situation we are in:unstable inflation rate, high interest rate, uneven distribution of wealth which has made majority of Nigerians to be within the poverty circle. Cost of living is really bad. We are really suffering and smiling. Nigerians are very much aware of the tussle for the leadership of the house, but my concern is irrespective of who wins the position of Senate president or Speaker of the house the interest of Nigerians should be more paramount in their heart and not that of the party. I think without a country there won't be an assembly. They shouldn't be a rubber stamp leaders who are there to make sure their party interest scale through but Nigeria interest. More paramount and of great interest to me is the petroleum industrial bill. There is a serious need to liberalize that sector for better performance. NNPC as it is currently operated is not good for the country. Work need to be done. There is an urgent need to review the power sector policy that concession the generating and distribution arm of the sector. We no get light ooo.Making it look as if it was a scam. Jobs need to be created not just intervention jobs that are not sustainable. And this can be achieve through proper and good policies that support the SME to grow.I beg make una do something. It is obvious the revenue of the government has dwindle, which requires the national assembly and the executive to cut down their budget on frivolities and their salaries to make money available to drive developmental plans of the government that will drive economic development and growth for better life of Nigerians. Promote inclusive growth, better healthcare and functional educational system for the populace. I rest my case and I pray for a better and functional legislation that will make life sweet for all. Peace NIGERIA. OLUWATOSIN ODUNLAMI |
