* APC Will Still Continue Blamegame - Odumakin

Temidayo Akinsuyi, Lagos

Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN), Chairman, Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC), on Tuesday, said with the election of Ahmad Lawan and Femi Gbajabiamila as Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives, respectively, he expects a harmonious relationship between the executive and legislative arms of government.

Speaking with Daily Independent, Sagay said contrary to what transpired in the eighth National Assembly where the performance of the Muhammadu Buhari administration was hindered, a lot will be achieved this year with the election of the duo who are the anointed candidates of the ruling party.

“We are going to have a harmonious relationship in governance. The executive and legislative arms of governance will work together and produce very good results for this country.

“All the time wasted bickering, quarreling, delaying budget and appointments, deliberately provoking the government is now over. You will see that between now and next year, a lot would have happened that will take this government forward. We are going to see a great leap forward for Nigeria in the next four years”.

However, in his reaction, Yinka Odumakin, National Publicity Secretary of Afenifere, said despite having their anointed candidates in both chambers of the National Assembly, Nigerians are waiting to see how the Federal Government will turn Nigeria into an Eldorado and take it to the next level

He said due to its nature, the APC-led Federal Government will still look for who to blame for its failure in governance.

“The major characteristic of this APC government is blame game. They will never accept blame for anything. Now that they are now in control of both chambers, we expect them to turn Nigeria to Eldorado in their next level promise.

“But there is nothing on ground to show that APC will change because we have gotten to a point where it is beginning to look like we don’t have a government in Nigeria”.

Also speaking, Dr. Adegbola Dominic, Lagos State chairman of the PDP, said the duo of Lawan and Gbajabiamiala should not be rubber stamp to the executive arm but should do what is right for Nigerians.

“My expectations are that they should lead with the fear of God and they should know that they are there for Nigerians and not for the APC government. They should know that they owe their obligations to the people and not the party.

“We really can’t say if Lawan will be a rubber stamp Senate President until they start. I don’t know their characters for now but I don’t expect them to kowtow to the government’s directives. Whatever is right for Nigerians is what they should do even if it is not in the interest of their own government”.

Unfortunate lawyer.
How can this man applaud the murder of democracy where check and balance has been extinguished by the executive.
