A fatal accident has occurred yet again on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway involving 7 vehicles, killing 8 people and injuring 12. Click to get the full details!

Multiple accidents on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway left eight people dead and twelve others severely injured on Wednesday June 12, 2019.

Mr. Clement Oladele, Federal Road Safety Corps Sector Commander in Ogun State confirmed the accident which occurred close to Danco filling station along the expressway.

According to the Sector Commander, the accident involved seven vehicles identified as:

- Toyota bus numbered LSR 560 XJ
- Toyota Camry numbered APP 196 RQ
- Toyota Sienna numbered ABC 512 ZV
- Daf tanker numbered APP 248 XT
- Iveco tanker numbered DED 776 XA
- Daf container numbered LND 04 XX.

Oladele disclosed that the accident was as a result of reckless driving, over-speeding and loss of control by one of the vehicles. A container hooked on a vehicle fell off and landed on two buses in the vicinity.

“From investigations, it was learnt that the unfortunate fatal crash was caused by speeding, reckless driving and loss of control on the part of one of the vehicles which led to a container fallen off from its hook on two buses,” he said.


Minor driving mistake may lead to multiple tragic accidents

The FRSC official further disclosed that a total number of 43 people were involved in the accident. Out of the 43, 12 persons sustained serious injuries and eight lost their lives. Those injured were rushed to Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) in Sagamu and Fambis Hospital in Mowe while remains of the deceased were taken to Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) mortuary in Sagamu.

Advising motorists, Oladele said that they should bear in mind that the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway was in the process of rehabilitation, hence, they should not exceed 50km per hour while plying the road as recommended by the National Road Traffic Regulations, 2004.
