Ondo Assembly dissolves LG chairmen

The Ondo State House of Assembly yesterday dissolved the 18 caretaker chairmen and 203 Supervisory Councillors across the local government areas of the state

This is as a result of the expiration of their six months tenure.
It will be recalled that the interim management committee members were inaugurated by the Ondo House of Assembly on December, 2018 for a term of six months.

The dissolution was announced at the plenary of the Assembly in Akure, the state capital.

The House said the dissolution took effect from yesterday June 13, 2019.

The House ordered the caretaker chairmen to handover to their Directors of Local Government Administration, of their respective councils (DLGA) with immediate effect.

Moving the motion for the dissolution,the majority leader, Mr Maito Jamiu noted that six months ago, after receiving letter from the state government, the committees were approved by the House to oversee the affairs of the local governments by virtue of the state laws, saying their tenure expired yesterday.

The motion was seconded by the deputy speaker, Mr Iroju Ogundeji.

Meanwhile, the House also confirmed the appointment of three nominees members of the state civil service commission.

This came after they were screened and recommended for confirmation by the House selection committee.

They are, Mr Rotimi Okeowo, Chief Joel Magi and Mr Isaac Adeleke Itiola.

Moving a motion on the activities of herdsmen and kidnappings in the state, a member representing Akure North constituency, Mr Abiodun Faleye noted that something must be done urgently to curb the trend hence the need for the House to invite the Miyetti Allah association saying that the citizens must not live in fear.

Also during the plenary session, seven executive bills passed through first reading among which are, a bill to amend the law for the Ondo State Education Endowment Fund, a bill to amend the law to make provisions for the Registration and Inspection of private institutions, the establishment of a private health institution registration unit, a bill for a law to provide for the retirement age of professors, academic, and non-academic staff of universities and other tertiary institutions in Ondo State.
