A group of unidentified men have forcibly closed down about 20 shops owned and operated by Nigerians at the Suame Magazine in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region of Ghana

The Nigerian traders say they have been targeted, ostensibly for the involvement of Nigerian nationals in the recent alleged kidnappings in Ghana.

The Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Traders Association, Chief Kizito Obiora, tells our Ashanti Region correspondent Beatrice Spio-Garbrah that they have been under attack since last Thursday.

He disclosed they have been forced to close their shops since last Friday and all through the weekend, and the perpetrators are demanding that they leave the country to their home Nigeria.

Chief Kizito, who said they have reported the case to the police, wants a quick intervention, noting “Nigerians at Suame Magazine are law-abiding”.

According to him, when the attacks started last week, the police intervened to restore order but added some unidentified young men returned Monday to forcibly lock up their shops.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has since commenced investigations into the matter.
