Following report being circulated by some groups who called themselves concerned Nigerians that the Commandant General (CG), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Alhaji Abdullahi Gana Mohammed is alleged to be responsible for the slow collapse of the security outfit, a counter group, Coalition For Nigerian Security has come out to dispute the assertion , saying it’s the handiwork of mischief makers who don’t see anything good they have been doing since his inception as the CG, NSCDC.

Reacting to the statement made by groups to President Mohammadu Buhari alleging that NSCDC is unregimented and operates as an informal organisation within the committee of formal and regimented organisations, Mr Charlse Christopher explained that the CG, NSCDC has a good track records which is visible everywhere.

Speaking against the suggestions to scrap NSCDC or merge it with the police and sacking of the “dead brains” that occupies the helm of affairs of the organisation, Mr Christopher frowned at the comment as wicked and mischievous.

Speaking to LEADERSHIP about the issue, he chided the claim, insisting that if the group are in tune with happenings within and outside the FCT, and the activities of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, they would know that NSCDC is a para-military agency of the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria that is commissioned to provide measures against threat and any form of attack or disaster against the nation and its citizenry and its statutorily empowered by lay Act No. 2 of 2003 and amended by Act 6 of 4th June 2007.


He revealed that since resuming office as the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), CG, Alhaji Abdullahi Gana Mohammed has for the first time, sent his men to defend all NNPC pipelines across Nigeria.

“People just speak without verifying facts. The impact of NSCDC on the Nigerian society is impeccable. Those who are aware know that promotions that was done only once in 10years is now done yearly. The leadership of NSCDC has formed an Agro Rangers Unit, Solid Minerals unit and others just to ensure they assist in securing the lives and properties of Nigerians.”


“For their information, the Corps is empowered to institute legal proceedings by or in then and of the Attorney General of the Federation in accordance with the provisions of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria against any person or persons suspected to have committed an offence, maintain an armed squad in order to bear fire arms among others to strengthen the corps in the discharge of its statutory duties.”

Mr Charlse noted that NSCDC have had over 120 convictions on various crimes and many more cases are ongoing in competent law courts across Nigeria.

“Where were these people calling for the scraping of NSCDC when under the CG’s watch the organisation has succeeded in constructing 10 new State Commands in Niger, Sokoto, Ogun, Ebonyi, Anambra, Ebonyi, Ekiti, Osun etc. And are planning on building more in the nearest future?

“Do you know that for the first time in 15 years, Civil Defence Corps went for UN Peace keeping. They aren’t aware because they are just there to blackmail and rubbish hard working Nigerians images. I learnt that Alhaji Abdullahi Gana has deployed men to liberated areas in North East and other red spots in the country and some of his personnel are assigned to secure all Telecom companies, oil Pipelines, Power and water installations around the country. The proof are there, so what are they talking about?”


“They talk about the legality of establishing NSCDC. For their information, in 1984, the Corps was transformed into a National security outfit and in 1988, there was a major re-structuring of the Corps that led to the establishment of Commands throughout the Federation, including Abuja, and the addition of special functions by the Federal Government. On 28th June, 2003, an Act to give statutory backing to the NSCDC passed by the National Assembly was signed into law by Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR, the former president and Commander in chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“So when people don’t have facts or are just looking for cheap blackmail, they tend to peddle fake news to unsuspecting public who think that’s how it is. These people are working tirelessly to secure the country with other military and paramilitary outfits and it is important for is to support and encourage them, not wickedly trying to blackmail them. As far as I am concerned, the President is happy with they are doing, likewise Nigerians,” he concluded.
