The emergence of Senator Ovie Omo Agege as the Deputy Senate President has been received with mixed reactions. While many APC supporters are expressing their satisfaction over the outcome of the elections held on the floor of the Senate to determine the two top officers of the Red Chamber, some others have criticized the choice of Senator Omo Agege as the DSP.
In furtherance to the above, controversy sparked only two days after the emergence of Senator Omo Agege as DSP, when images showing the Senator kneeling down to shake the hands of President Buhari surfaced on social media.
Many Nigerians, including Femi Fani Kayode criticized the Deputy Senate President for this act, stating that such actions shows a lack of character to perform checks and balance with the executive.
However, a contrary view has been expressed by some Nigerians, who are saying that the Senator has only proven himself to be a true son of the Niger Delta, a region that is rich with so many cultural values, of which kneeling down to greet elders is one of them.
They further stated that those who are criticizing the Senator are only reminding us of how much of our cultural values we have lost in the name of globalization.
