The Buhari government has moved to ban the Almajiri system in the north, over the insecurity wrecking activities in the region. The decision to ban the Alamjiri system was taken by the Buhari government, after a National Economic Council (NEC) meeting presided by the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the State House, Abuja. The National Security Adviser (NSA), Babagana Monguno, who briefed newsmen alongside the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, Adamawa Governor, Ahmadu Fintri, Anambra, Willie Obiano and Ondo Rotimi Akeredolu, said the federal government is considering proscribing the Almajiri system to address the rising insecurity in the country

He said: “It is very important to proscribe certain groups ultimately running around under the guise of maybe getting some kind of education that is not really formal and then begin to cause a lot of problems for society.

“Ultimately, government will have to proscribe this Almajiri phenomenon because we cannot continue to have street urchins, children roaming around, only for them in a couple of years, or decades to become a problem to society. We are not saying that they are going to be contained in a manner that you might think we want to do something that is harmful to them, no. What we want to do is to work with the state governments to enforce the policy of education for every child. It is every child’s right, his entitlement so long as he is a Nigerian.”

Whenever it comes to taking very important policy decisions Buhari would be missing.... sending his deputy who is mere Commissioner to take stead.

The Almajiri system is not something you just wake up one day to scrap. The system was introduced with progression to where it is today. Buhari himself have the better knowledge and religious clout to change the system, having benefitted immensely from it.

He will have to involve all the top Moslem religious leaders and the elites who created this demonic religious cast system in order to abolish and replacing it with one that gives every child equal and compulsory western education because there is nothing Islamic in the Almajiri rather a systemic way for politicians to control the over teeming youth population to their own advantages and this system have created a very very big gap in human capital development index between the North and South; as the North is 100 years behind.

Going to take many decades to rehabilitate the North. The Southern Nigeria would have fared better without these parasites and haram folks.
Now everybody is stuck in their mess!
It is a matter of time, this zoo country will disintegrate oneday.

To be replaced with what?

If only it were possible to hide behind the cloak of office as is the case with most of the skewed appointments, I'm sure these goons would have loved to transfer this Almajiri "appointment and way of life" to the Southern Nigerian kids and vice verse.
