President Donald Trump abruptly pulled back on strikes he approved against Iran, who shot down a US drone on Thursday night after a day of escalating tensions. The retaliation plan was intended as a response to the shooting down of the unmanned, $130 million surveillance drone, which was struck Thursday morning by an Iranian surface-to-air missile, according to a senior administration official who was briefed on the military planning and spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss confidential plans.

Iran maintained that the US aircraft was downed in Iranian territory, with Foreign Minister Javad Zarif tweeting a timeline of the incident later on Thursday. "At 00:14 US drone took off from UAE in stealth mode & violated Iranian airspace. It was targeted at 04:05 at the coordinates (25°59'43"N 57°02'25"E) near Kouh-e Mobarak," he wrote. However US authorities who countered the claim with its own coordinates, stated that the drone had been flying in international airspace when it was shot down, at a point about nine nautical miles southwest of that cited by Iran.

Nice move from Iran, why spying on another man's territory?

Every nation is an independent state and has right to guard her territory, can anyone of these eastern countries flies kite close to US territory?

Trump was wrong here, but I'm so sure if the strike hadn't been called off, both countries would suffer causalities just that Iran would be badly hit, but US would be hit too.

Iran could have taken the case to UN that America violated its airspace but for them to have shot that drone that should tell you the Islamic republic if fully prepared for a full confrontation with the US. Violating a sovereign airspace is an act of aggression. I don't know what US derives in war this issue can be resolved diplomatically

Quite funny you made mention of UN, Syria's airspace has been violated several times, what has UN done? bro UN can't do shii to US.

For now I can't take side till I know whose side the drone was before been shot at, but US striking Iran will increase tension, Iran will surely target some Us ships in the Persian Gulf.

Both country will suffer, but Iran will suffer most, so they should pile down and solve things diplomatically, this issue wouldn't have happened if the JCPOA deal was still in tact.

For all those war jonkies on NL, a war with Iran will see millions dying. let's hope for peace.

Yes US would be hit to Especially in the Persian golf but the attack reaching US soil would be possible that's if Russia or China decides to poke-nose

US will not and cannot attack Iran... All dey will do is huff and puff and make excuses for why dey won't go ahead to retaliate... Any air strike against Iran and dey will get same in equal measures and dey know it

Trump inflicted this upon himself by pulling out of a deal that was working. The latest reaction of pulling back from a military strike would embolden Iran and by extension North Korea. US is ridiculing herself in the face of the world. With reluctance from allies to go into war with Iran, with potential deadly strikes against US interests and troops by militias in the Persian gulf, the US has got to rejig her strategy. It's a case of being caught between the devil and the deep blue sea. America does not want to appear weak yet they don't want to be drawn into the war that will destabilise the global economy and cost US taxpayer millions of dollars which sadly it's a war they might not even win.

Make them take heart next time avoid spying on another persons territory

The fact that Mr Trump called off the strikes shows US is guilty here, that drone entered Iranian airspace. You can't attack US military assets unprovoked without a retaliatory response from the US.

The global hawk drone which Iran downed is not a stealth aircraft and stealth is not and never has been invisibility, but it does offer greatly delayed detection so that a fighter or bomber can engage a target and leave before the enemy has time to react.
