Chelsea have confirmed Petr Cech as their new Sporting Director on today Friday 21st June, 2019.

The former Arsenal goalkeeper, who turned 37 last month, retired from playing after the Gunners’ Europa League final in Azerbaijan.


His return to Stamford Bridge has increased expectations that Frank Lampard will succeed Maurizio Sarri who was unveiled as the new Juventus coach on Thursday morning.

Chelsea have been without a technical director since Michael Emenalo stepped down in November 2017.

Cech was pictured on Thursday at Stamford Bridge with Blues director and chief negotiator Marina Granovskaia who has taken on the majority of Emenalo’s old duties since he quit.

Marina Granovskaia has said that she's delighted after finalising an agreement to bring Petr Cech back to Stamford Bridge.

The Chelsea director was instrumental in securing a return for the 37-year-old who established himself as a firm fans' favourite during his 11 years in west London.

That return has been confirmed with Cech taking on the role of Technical and Performance Advisor, which will see him advise on all football and performance matters from the senior team down to the academy.

Having spent over a decade with the Blues, the former goalkeeper will undoubtedly add real experience and value as the club look towards an exciting new chapter.

Speaking of Cech's appointment, Marina Granovskaia said: "We are delighted to welcome Petr back home to Chelsea.

"During his playing career here he was one of the most dedicated, successful and thoughtful professionals we have ever had.
