ODIRS sensitises Ore community on Land Use Charge



Ondo State Internal Revenue Service (ODIRS) has extended its Land Use Charge sensitization tour to residents of Ore community in Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The Director of Property Tax, Mr Henry Akinrinsola while addressing stakeholders at a town hall meeting in Ore said the law began operation in 2017.

He said their commitment in paying the land use charge will make them have moral justification to ask for dividends of democracy for their community from the government.

Responding to some questions from the people, the Head of Land Use Charge, Mr Fidelis Fadugbagbe noted that the implementation was delayed due to its nature before the present administration.

According to him, this has however been addressed by the Akeredolu administration who has given waivers on some if its complicated procedures making it easier for the people to comply with and in making payment.

He disclosed that the implementation has fully begun in some parts of the state and has been very effective .

Fadugbagbe outlined various structures of payment identifying them through the low, middle and high valued areas saying that the lowest payment is a thousand naira while the highest is N10,000 naira excluding the commercial buildings which may attract higher fees.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters, Hon. Ifabiyi Olatunji appreciated the people for their commitment and presence at the meeting and assured them of dividends of democracy that are due to them.

Olatunji said there was need for government to create other ways of generating revenue to complement the federal allocation which he noted was not enough for developmental projects.

The land use charge, he said, is one of those ways. government has created among many others to meet the dwindling economy of the state and the nation at large.

The Ore Community Chairman, Alhaji Suraju Olayiga appreciated the state government for the initiatives taken so far promising that the people will comply with the payment of the land use charge.
