Govenor Babagan Umara Zulum of Borno State on Sunday suspended three medical doctors found to be absent on duty at the General Hospital in Biu local government area.

Another doctor was also suspended for trying to cover for the absentee doctors.

The Governor handed down the suspension during an unscheduled visit to the General Hospital to obtain first-hand knowledge of their operations as part of his tour of all local government areas in the state.

“I have earlier stated that my administration will not condone the culture of absenteeism, indolence, indiscipline and nepotism in the public service.

“We are working for the people, not the people working for us, we must value their time and respect their resources therefore lack of punctuality will not be accepted,” the governor warned.

He declared that prudent management of public funds, transparency and accountability will be the guiding principles of his administration.

You made a good point...but the issue is, even if Borno was as stable as the United Kingdom...those doctors won't be on their seat.

The problem exitsts all over Nigeria.

Where I did my NYSC...there was only one government hospital, run by one doctor who turned up only on three days of the week. In the LG hq. Elsewhere...NYSC doctors.

All I know, and i won't stop saying it , is that I will make it in life.....I will do well , those that have looked down on me will open their mouths......i will not fail, if I had the courage to start, then I have the courage to finish baby.....I wasn't born a failure..... I didn't even bother to read the content of the news because it exasperates me seeing people that are known for saving life get suspended.

There should be other ways to penalize them ,but not by suspension. Nigerian leaders are known for showing off on minor issues.

Why not get other disciplinary measures? Eg pay deductions for the absenteeism.
