The police on Wednesday arraigned a 22-year-old man, Eniola Kareem, at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a Bible and phone worth N2,500 from Word Life Bible Church, Ayobo, Lagos.

Kareem, who resides at No. 22, Ijesha St., Ayobo in Lagos, is charged with theft.

The Prosecution Counsel, Sgt. Samuel Mishozumu, told the court that Kareem committed the offence on May 19.

Mishozumu said the defendant unlawfully entered the church at Amule Ayobo in Lagos and stole a Bible and a Nokia phone valued at N2,500, property of one Ms Fatima Adeyibo.

He told the court that Kareem was caught by members of the church who handed him over to the police.

Mishozumu said the offence contravened provisions of Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that kareem is liable to three years in prison if convicted.

After the charge was read to him , he pleaded not guilty.

Magistrate O.D. Njoku, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N20,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Njoku adjourned the case until July 16, for further hearing.

How can One be preaching about forgiveness but can't forgive


Stealing Bible and phone inside the house of God should be a case between the thief and God!!

I thought the house of God forgives and forget, instead of arresting the man they should have preached to him about christ's love and his power to forgive sins. So much for christainity, is this the way Jesus condemned the two thieves that were on the cross with him.

Truth be told, stealing a Bible and a phone worth N2,500 doesn't warrant criminal prosecution. Could have just flogged him or given him some form of sanction.

Someone cannot go to his father's house and take what he wants again?

He's suppose to uphold the law, not violate it. That's abuse of public trust. If I'm the judge, I'll ensure he goes to jail for at least 12 months.

It's quite amassing how people talk about forgiveness... I have heard of thieves interrupting a vigil and also rob and rape victims... When such are arrested, we should leave them for God to judge too... God has permitted Government to deal with with criminals with law.
