All other public service commissions in Nigeria are on a 10/100... INEC is on 25/100. Does that make INEC good enough?
No, it doesn't. But it does place them above the rest, which is what I think the Professor is saying.

Today the gold standard for election organisation remains domiciled with Professor Jega. Acknowledged by both sides of the loss/win equation. I cannot remember those who came before him in the 4th Republic histrionics and there is a good chance no one will remember your tour of duty Mr Mahmoud at best.

As those who hail you today are from the winning side, so they were in 1999, 2003 2007 and 2011. But when it was done properly, in 2015 the winners knew they really won and the losers new they really lost, all Nigerans accepted the results and praised the process. So it is not about who wins or loses but about the quality of the umpiring.

I don't think that Prof cares very much about all this. As long as the account is fat and he's hailed as a true concilliary by the government of the day and a loyal servant of the North, he's fine. As far as he's concerned, it's all about money and popularity with his people.

Talk about that low-grade mentality evident in most Nigerians - in many of us castigating him today.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) appears not bothered by scathing indictment trailing its conduct of the last general elections. Chairman of the nation’s electoral umpire, Professor Mahmood Yakubu on Wednesday described the Commission under his leadership as the most improved public agency in Nigeria. He gave the self-appraisal at the review of the 2019 election conduct with the second batch of about 387 Election Officers (EOs) from the Southern states of the country. He declared that INEC has improved tremendously in its performance with each successive elections conducted in the country since 1999.

He said: “If you look at what happened to our elections since 1999, you will know that INEC is the most improve public service in Nigeria. We have offices at the grassroots, but we can do more.” He appealed to the Electoral Officers to feel free to ventilate their views and share their observations as he noted that the summit was meant to improve on its performance in last general elections. “Feel free to make the observations and necessary suggestions. It is an opportunity to make our elections better.

“Every organisation should be interested in the successive plan. The commission will not lose experience hands soon. We try to build the capacity of our EOs by giving them the needed exposure. We involved the EOs in foreign elections observation including various trips to Kenya, Liberia America. “It helps me to assess the EOs and I’ve not been disappointed with the quality of our EOs. You do more than just election day activity. We started in 2018 with the Continuous Voters’ Registration and about 14.2 million registered voters were added.”

In his remarks, National Commissioner and Chairman, Planning, Monitoring & Strategy Committee, INEC, Dr Mustapha Lecky, said the interactive session was organised to take recommendations from the Electoral Officers because of the critical roles they play in the electoral process.
Yesterday session with the Electoral Officers from the Southern States was the second batch of the interactive forum as INEC had a similar summit with 387 Electoral Officers from the 19 Northern states on Monday.

Yakubu Mahmoud, you took the credibility of INEC to the lowest ebb.
Never in the history of Nigeria had elections been so rigged and so poorly conducted than during your tenure.

You even postponed election on the eve of the election.

You assured political parties that you would conduct free and fair elections through use of modern electronic system of collation of results, the parties confided in you.

After the elections, you told the parties that you did not use the method you earlier assured them.

History will always remember Yakubu for being wasteful and incompetent. I pray someone who will reverse all your errors comes on board speedily so Nigeria don't get totally destroyed IJN. Amen!

No body agreed to your prayer

Perhaps because Prof Mahmoud Yakubu set out to destroy Nigeria through his imposition of Buhari upon Nigeria for a second tenure.

Short term thinking. Don't worry he will care in the future when time has passed, money has finished and those he seeks to please have either passed away or have realised the folly of what he didfor them years before.

I gave an example of Prof Humphery Nwosu. Will money matter to him today. Where is th money he gained then. The person he sought to please then is today barely relevant and on his way out of life. Can he run to the constituency, the military he perpetuated in power then? Was he not a few days ago pleading for the rewriting of history from those he offended in his favour.

That is what the black man lacks.... vision, a comittmemt to legacy, understanding his place and position in history. He cannot understand that a day is like a thousand years and a thousand years is like a day. That changes could happen in an instant, that standards could improve overnight, that what he calls performance today could be derided as disastrous tomorrow.

Give Humprey Nwosu another chance and he would do things completely different knowing what he knows today. At the keast he would have resigned and run away to save himself and his generation the recorded infamy. But they say hindsight is 20/20 and for the Nigerian it is complete blindness to the basic facts of life.
