THE youth wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo has submitted a proposal for a draft bill for the federation of South East states of Abia, Anambra , Ebonyi, Imo and Enugu.

Igbos in Delta and Rivers could opt to join the federation, the group said.

The National President of the group, Arthur Obiora said the draft bill has been sent to all state Houses of Assembly in the East for deliberation and passage.

He noted that in view of the socio-political and structural conflicts in Nigeria, it has become necessary for Nigeria to go back to regional system with a level of autonomy for the federating regions .

“This will ensure faster development of the country and make rat race to control the centre less.”

He hoped the bill would be passed and other parts of Nigeria do the same.

The deputy spokesman of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide Chuks Ibegbu noted that there was nothing wrong with the draft and it is better the issue is addressed for the future of Nigeria.

First reasonable move i have seen the whole IPOB people make... however the bill isn't robust enough to get them what they want, this would merely provide them with something simillar to NDDC or NEDC....

Let the state houses of assembly concur first before thinking of going outside to seek approval....approval which i can tell you now they will not get! Also, they need to be proactive in trying to get Igbos from Delta and Rivers states on board!

What they are asking for is tantamount to treason. Creating an autonomous federation within the Nigerian federation is a clear violation of the 1999 Constitution which clearly states how the federation is to be governed and the relationship between the center and the federating units. This is even way beyond Buhari's pay grade

1. establishment of a regional parliament made up of the 96 south eastern local govt representatives....

2. establishment of a regional house of chiefs made up about 40 selected high ranking traditional rulers


3. establishment of the office of regional governor and deputy gov.

The regional legislators will be given mandate to delibrate on selected concurrent items affecting the region and give a non-binding resolution to the house of assemblies to delibrate and adopt officially
The regional gov who would be appointed by the 5 govs should be someone highly respected and his job will be to speak and be the visible leader of south east

Not a bad idea. I have always thought that regional government structure in a federation will suit Nigeria's multicultural and religious setting.

It will devolve power to regions and allow them to have more say in the way they want to progress. It will also allow for healthy competitions among regions.

It is worth trying since the current government structure is kind of divisive.

Good move. Since they are enforcing RUGA , those of us in the south should start enforcing a regional agenda and fight for regional autonomy.
