Our focus in this country should be community health development. Jman06:You have spoken well Sir. Also in Nigeria especially Doctors do the least work in our communities. For example you will almost never find a full time medical doctor in our rural communities. Even local government general hospitals hardly have full time 24/7 medical doctors on duty. But the hospitals and clinics are manned by other professionals with the overwhelming number of patients and limited resources. Yet no credit is given to them and they are always looked down upon by the doctors. I have seen villages where a single community health worker runs a clinic. He 'midwifes' births, prescribes drugs, carry out tests, make referrals and everything else! Because he's the most qualified medical practitioner within 50km radius. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Johesu have started again...... Rubbish It's no ones fault their childhood dreams to become medical doctors were crushed by jamb. If you want to become minister of health, no-one is stopping you, just purchase jamb form and apply for medicine. 9 Likes 1 Share |

Honestly this matter calls for special consideration by the federal government! There's need to listen to the demands of these healthcare professionals. You can't continue to suppress their voices and expect to have a smooth health sector that can guarantee quality healthcare delivery to Nigerians. Why can't government understudy how healthcare professionals work in synergy in the developed countries and replicate same here Stop giving advantage to only one professional group while neglecting the demands of others! You can never get things right by doing that! Medical doctors have been the ones running our health institutions for many years, yet we have one of the poorest health sectors in the world! All the time they attribute our poor health sector to lack of adequate funding by the government but as a matter of fact, that is not completely true. No matter how much government invests in the health sector, we'll continue to have poor outputs until issues relating to professional rivalry in the sector are addressed. To solve this problem once and for all, government should replicate the system being practiced in the UK here whereby professional healthcare administrators are put in charge of governing health institutions. The healthcare administrators are in a better position to manage the sector because they're usually individuals with no allegiance to any of the healthcare professional groups. So, the likelihood of being biased is greatly reduced. Nigerian medical doctors on their part need to stop being insecure and concentrate in developing the numerous medical specialties that are grossly in short supply in this country! Imagine them dragging laboratory benches and pharmacies with medical lab scientists and pharmacists when their mates in the rest of the world are busy with organ transplantation, high risk pregnancies, plastic surgeries, stem cells transplantation etc. What a shame! 33 Likes 2 Shares |

This is a joke. Pathologist are not trying to dominate the labs, pathologist own the lab. One needs at least 11 years of medical education to become a pathologist, not 3 to 4 months as claimed by the slowpoke. Get it 18 Likes 2 Shares |

Jman06: You just made a fool of yourself. You really do not know how healthcare in developed countries work. Do you? Talking about stem cell transplant, do you know that the doctors who champion stem cell transplant are laboratory physicians called haematologist. They same people you accused of dragging bench with lab technicians or scientists as they often claim... Always get your facts straight, and stop being stupid. 18 Likes 2 Shares |

charleymed:You're the big fool here because in the developed countries, leadership of health institutions is not an exclusive preserve of the physicians! Even world health organization is not exclusively led by medical doctors! 16 Likes |

to be fair , health ministerial position doesn't require clinical skill and it shouldn't be a privilege to a particular health profession. different professions make up the health sector and any person qualified for the task should be given nd not denied based on their profession . 7 Likes |

ultron12345:this is a foolish statement and void of sound logical reasoning . so everyone in the health sector desired being a medical doctor? should those who doesn't have any intention being a medical doctor go and apply to study medicine for a ministerial position because they would be taught in one of the clinical rotations skills required in becoming a health minister? it's very logical to assume that if a person from a certain profession is allowed to call the shots in matters that affects other professionals in same industry, that person would most likely show allegiance to his profession first and bias comes in such instances as regards decisions taken 10 Likes |

These JOHESU people like telling so many lies just to get undue sympathy from the members of the Public. How can you say that doctors aren't trained in the Universities to practice Laboratory Medicine or that Pathologists undergo 3-4 months course? Google is freely available now, so anyone can read it up on Google on who are Pathologists and their levels of training. How can you say Chemical Pathologists or Haematologists have no role to play in Chemical Pathology or Heamatology Laboratories? This is like saying a Physicist has no role in Physics Laboratory. 10 Likes 1 Share |

Those laboratory guys are real lunatics. They should scrap that course at undergraduate level, turn into a post-graduate certificate. So that these crazy people making noise would have to study a science degree like microbiology, biochemistry etc before going to the labs. That way, they would have to get busy and stop shouting up and down 7 Likes 1 Share |
