Low Implementation Of Academic Research Outcomes In Nigeria by ewriter: 2:54am On Jul 01, 2019
I always ask myself, why do we carry out academic research in Nigeria. Often times, students in Nigeria carry out research solely to improve their C.G.P.A or with the purpose of graduating with a good grade, not with the mindset of solving a problem in the society or overall national development or progress. Over the years, results or findings from several research works have greatly accelerated human development. Nigeria cannot afford to go to sleep, when other nations of the world are breaking new and fallowed grounds through their research activities.
Nigeria should enjoy some of the benefits accrue from research activities. Some of which include:
a) Liberation from ignorance and poverty
b) Improvement in standard of living
c) Provision of solution in standard of counterparty problems
d) Improvement in educational practice.
The general social, economic and political environment prevalent in Nigeria seriously militates against research development. It saddens my heart that the government does not care about research findings; this explains why funds are not generously released to the education sector to engage in breakthrough research activities. A visit to most of the institution of higher learning will show many research works that have been done over the years rotting away. Due to low level of scientific culture and interest, the general public and politicians prefer not to invest in research activities but on politics, which is their main area of interest, this attitude does not encourage researchers to continue with good research work.
