Juventus Makes First Official €55m Bid For Matthijis De Ligt by Footynews352: 2:29am On Jul 04, 2019
Even with Juventus reportedly being the preferred next destination of young Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt, it’s being proven that this potential transfer will be one that is far from a quick piece of business between Dutch champions and Italian champions.

No need to look further than what Juventus reportedly put forward as their first formal offer to try and secure de Ligt’s services.

According to Sky Sport Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio, Juventus’ first offer for de Ligt has arrived on Ajax’s desk. The details: Juventus has put forth an offer of €55 million plus another €10 million in potential bonuses — a figure that is less than what Paris Saint-German has reportedly offered and well below the reported €75 million asking price that Ajax has been seekingly from the onset.

It’s been around a week since Di Marzio reported that the 19-year-old de Ligt had agreed to personal terms with Juventus. As much as that part of the equation is viewed as a relative easy step in the process compared to negotiating the potential transfer fee, lest we forget who de Ligt is represented by: a certain agent by the name of Mino Raiola.

But even with Raiola being on the other end of personal terms negotiation, that part of the equation has been done — which leaves us to now wait for a transfer fee to be determined.

The obvious low-ball kind of offer from Juve’s end is to see just how flexible Ajax will be when it comes to coming off the €75 million figure. Since some of the other clubs who were chasing de Ligt’s signature — Manchester United, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain — have seemingly bowed out of the race for now, there’s not necessarily a bidding war between Juventus and another party. How much that works in Juve’s favor remains to be seen.

For now, though, it’s just about negotiations between Juventus and Ajax. Maybe they will be done in a few days, maybe it will be a few weeks. But we’ll (hopefully) know soon enough whether or not these negotiations prove to be what brings de Ligt to Turin.
