Insecurity: Red Cross Comes To The Aid of 80,000 Farmers In Borno, Yobe, Others by faithfull18(f): 10:44am On Jul 06, 2019 |
No fewer than 80,000 farmers in nine states affected by security crisis have received seeds from the International Committee of the Red Cross to aid cultivation in the rainy season. The seeds in maize, millet, rice, cowpea, hibiscus, sesame and vegetable seeds were given to the families by the Red Cross for the 2019 planting season to support their families and their communities in recovering from the security crises. The states are; Borno, Adamawa, Yobe, Bauchi, Plateau, Kaduna, Nassarawa, Benue and Cross River. The Red Cross said in a release on Friday that some of the farmers were also given undisclosed cash sums to buy farming tools and other agricultural inputs. The Head of the ICRC Operations in Adamawa State, Jane Clarke, said, “The distributions began in March and were carried out with the help of the Nigerian Red Cross Society. Humanitarian figures indicate that more than 7.1 million people in Nigeria need life-saving assistance. The bulk of whom reside in the North-East, where a protracted conflict between the government and armed opposition groups continues to play out.” Reported by Olaleye Aluko, Abuja Culled from https://punchng.com/insecurity-80000-farmers-in-borno-yobe-kaduna-others-get-red-cross-aid/ Cc lalasticlala Cc Mynd44 |

This is just a temporary relief though as long as those causing the crisis are still at large. |
