The women's world cup has ended, and as usual no African team impressed us. Every year we keep sending players outside to represent us only for them to come back almost as soon as they leave empty handed. These are my top 3 reasons why this is so

Lack of football culture and passion for the game
You think football is just a mere sport right? Take a trip to South America or Europe to understand what soccer means to some others. If you want to understand what I mean from another angle, take time to observe how empty the stadiums are whenever the African Nations Cup tournament is going on

Lack of high quality football Academies
In countries that value soccer, institutions are built to world standards which serve to train young minds physically, mentally and emotionally in the game of soccer. Most times, players selected from these academies go through a very rigorous and competitive process. The best of the best are selected!! It's not as if every Brazilian baby was born with a football under his armpit!!

Lack of healthy domestic leagues
This third reason has a lot to do with the first reason. African countries need to dedicate more time and resources to ensure that their national leagues are up to standard (both male and female) This is the only way that young African players can progress and test their abilities with other top players around the world.

Until we seek solutions to these problems, our teams will keep on coming back empty handed almost as soon as they leave. Football isn't magic!!

It's not as if Africans don't know how to play football. A very important factor is how these players are selected!! Every country has talented players but some countries go extra miles in fishing these talents out. A lot of potential stars in Nigeria are doing something outside what they are meant to be doing. Some of them are wearing suits and overall working and stressing their lifes in environments they don't fit in. Some are in school struggling with their grades when they should be sharpening their skills in standard leagues and football academies
