A senior officer of the Ministry of Power, Works and Housing, Maikudi Haruna has been apprehended for allegedly forging the signature of former minister of the same Ministry, Babatunde Fashola.

Spokesman for the National Immigration Service(NIS), Sunday James, noted that Haruna took the action in order to secure Official Passport for his client identified as Abubakar Mustapha having been paid the sum of N250, 000.

An official passport is exclusively issued to senior federal government officials, state executives and senior military personnel.

While James did not specifically mention Fashola as the person whose signature was forged, remember that until May, Babatunde Fashola was the minister of power, works and housing.

While arraigning Haruna before Justice Taiwo Taiwo of the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court, the NIS spokesman said, Haruna, despite knowing that his client, Mustapha, was not a staff of the Ministry of Power, Works and Housing, went ahead to forge the minister’s signature on the identity card.

Haruna is now being charged with conspiracy and making false statement for the purpose of procuring Nigerian passport and engaging in forgery.

“The Comptroller General of Nigeria Immigration Service Muhammad Babandede MFR has vowed not to spare individual or groups involved in passport related offences from getting away with it,” he said.
