The Senate on Wednesday set up ad-hoc committee to probe the crisis rocking the Edo State House of Assembly, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV gathered that members of the committee are to work with the House of Representatives committee on the same matter.

Igbere TV recalls that the House of Representatives had on Tuesday, set u a seven-man committee to prosecute the same crisis.

This followed a motion which urged the House to take over the functions of the Edo Assembly in line with the Constitution.

The motion was brought by Julius Ihonvbere, Peters Akpatason and Johnson Oghuma during plenary.

They argued that the action would enable the lawmakers to constitute proper inauguration of the state Assembly.

I tire for Nigerian politicians. They bend the rules to suit their wim and caprices. Though what the Edo governor did is wrong. You cannot for personal reasons inaugurate the house at an awkward hour of the day. You didn't do it between 8am and 5am but at night hours so that only your loyalists will attend. And only nine our of twenty four members were present. Though wrong, I enjoyed it because Adams Oshiomhole was treated to his tricks. In the same house, he passed the state budget while he was governor with less than ten members of the house. He deliberately removed the roof of the house chambers on the excuse that it was being renovated and moved his few loyalists to the government House to pass the budget. The same Oshiomhole kept on threatening Bukola Saraki with impeachment by saying that you only need two thirds of a quorum, which is one third of the Senators, to remove Saraki. Based on that premise, all Obaseki has done is to get nine members of the house, which formed quorum, to inaugurate the house. QED.
