Today a report was published online detailing the destruction of one of southern Nigeria's last surviving areas of "protected" forest reserve, that happens to be home to a few herds of very rare African Forest Elephants.

The tragedy of this story is that the timber thieves currently destroying much of Africa's forest reserves, are already working hard to ruin the last remaining habitat of Nigeria's dwindling population of forest elephants, along with all the other species of wildlife that cling to survival in the rapidly vanishing Omo forest reserve, located along the expressway that links the west and east of Nigeria.

This is a very depressing story to read, but if the criminally inclined officials sitting cozy in the national capital Abuja, that are actively promoting this forest destruction, can be stopped and removed from office, it may yet be possible to save this magnificent species from extinction at the hands of greedy loggers and poachers. Below is the link to this unfolding tale of avarice, destruction that is common to so much of Africa today.
