The Sienna debuted with a 3.0-liter 1MZ FE V6 engine with 194 hp (145 kW) and 284 Nm (209 lb·ft) of torque. The Sienna was built on an extended platform of the Camry and appropriately marketed as a "Camry of Minivans", the popularity and reputation of the Toyota Camry came to fruition. There were three trim levels: CE, LE and XLE. The LE and XLE models were equipped with Captain's chairs of the 2nd row, while the CE models were equipped with a bench for 2 passengers of the 2nd row.
The driver's side sliding door and roof rack were standard on the LE and XLE models, but optional on the CE models. The XLE models proposed leather seats and a wood trim package. The Sienna was also the best fuel economy in its class of 16 city / 22 highway miles per gallon.

The Sienna is the successor to Toyota Previa and shares the platform and engine with Toyota Camry. The new Sienna generation has been equipped with some new features, including rear parking sensors, reversing camera, child mirror and navigation system.

The people carrier comes with a new and aggressive exterior design, that announces the car's sportier handling. The suspension was firmed up and the handling sharpened in order to offer a driving experience closer to that of a sedan. Toyota also introduced a new 6-speed sequential automatic transmission and a new 2.7-liter straight four petrol engine alongside the old 3.5-liter V6.

In 2014, the Toyota Sienna got a refresher. The exterior looks the same, with the exception of the lights, which were slightly reworked. The interior has the biggest changes with a new dashboard, redesigned seats and more features. The sporty SE version still has different bumpers, grille and wheels as well as a special red livery.

Outside, the new MPV gets the latest Toyota design language with updated lights, bumpers, large trapezoidal grille and other sharp lines. The interior has been redesigned dashboard, seats, door maps and new features. The TSS-P is standard on all models and includes the pedestrian-controlled pre-collision system, full-speed dynamic radar cruise control, lane departure warning with power assist and high-beam auto.
