The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council on Saturday sympathised with the Yoruba Nation over the untimely demise of Mrs Finke Olakunrin, daughter of the leader of the Yoruba Socio-Cultural Organisation, Afenifere, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, on the Benin-Ore Road by suspected herdsmen operating on the highway.

In a statement issued on Saturday by its President-General, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the Ohanaeze youth wing urged the governors of the southwest region to ban the free movement of cattle as a way of checking the activities of the herdsmen.

The statement read, “This is a provocative onslaught on the Yoruba nation with the evil intent to spark another tribal war against different tribes in Nigeria. We call on the Yoruba nation to handle the matter with caution. We also urge them to remain calm in the face of obvious threat and Provocations.

“The Igbo people had suffered different, but similar persecution, from armed herdsmen operating in the South Eastern roads. We advice the South West governors to emulate from the South East governors and ban the movement of herdsmen through restrictions of cattle conveyance on by lorry.

“Armed herdsmen are using cattle conveyance by foot to commit a heinous crime against the indigenous host communities, with the clampdown of Bandits in the North West and Terrorists in the North West, it is obvious that South West and South East are now a safe haven for the terrorism to thrive.”

“We condole with Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti’s family, may God grant them the fortitude to bear the loss.”
