*Nigerians rank Sahara Reporters, Punch as leading FAKE NEWS media outfits*

Nigerians have ranked SaharaReporters and Punch Newspapers as the leading media outfits for fake news in the country following a vote on a poll on social media.

In a poll conducted by Oladele Peter, titled: "Which News Media Ranks First In Fake News". Sahara Reporters topped the vote, after being picked by 47% of the respondents.
Punch placed second with 27% while Premium Times and Daily Post placed a joint third with 13% each.

Oladele Peter, a professional psychologist, explained that he conducted the poll following weeks of fake news churned out by media outfits in Nigeria.

In this online poll which was recently conducted this month, some very interesting findings were gathered to show how respondents see the media houses when it comes to publishing fake news and passing it off as the real deal.

With the spread of internet usage and smartphones becoming as ubiquitous as pens, the phrase that goes “the world is a global village” has become a daily reality for billions of the world’s population. Zoom in on Nigeria and the global village becomes one long street of interactions in all directions, with diverse ramifications.

Nigerians are a unique audience of sorts, and over time this audience has come to identify the major home-based media outlets for their various strengths and weaknesses, presentation styles, as well as neutrality or partisanship in political issues.

Fake news is a global scourge and Nigeria is not immune to this terrible trend in news dissemination. After the US election cycle in 2016 that produced Donald Trump as president, the world became introduced to media tactics for aggressive controlling of narratives.

When media sources deliberately set out to twist the little shreds of truth, or outright falsehoods that get presented as news, it becomes the burden of the audience to sieve through all content and separate fact from fiction.

How did Sahara reports get so popular in the first place, for as early as I can remember they have always published unbased news.
