INEC Server: Can A Server Be Deleted? Separating Facts From Fiction by 9jatriot(m): 4:30pm On Jul 16, 2019
A certain Femi Taiwo was brought to the limelight recently by Reno Omokri. All good marketing experts will tell you that there is no such thing as a bad press, rather, it is how you use the bad press. While that may be debatable, what is not debatable is that we now know that there is a Nigeria Youth named Femi Taiwo, whose firm was engaged by INEC to set up some aspects of their system for them. In this era of yahoo yahoo boys are the ones who make the news headlines, it is indeed refreshing to know that we have some good youths, we at least now have something to celebrate.

Now back to the topic. Can a server be deleted? If you want a quick response, ask a Buhari or an Atiku supporter and you will get varying responses, both of which will be driven by interest. To whom then do we turn? Only the experts can provide the answer that we need. Before we do that we must first know what a server is and analyze this away from INEC server. That means we must remove INEC from our mind and understand what a server is for what it is.

The first question is, can a server be a hardware device or a software device?
According to an online blog, techterms.com "A server is a computer that provides data to other computers. It may serve data to systems on a local area network (LAN) or a wide area network (WAN) over the Internet.
Many types of servers exist, including web servers, mail servers, and file servers. Each type runs software specific to the purpose of the server. "
Another IT blog lifewire.com defines a server as "the server is the software that handles a specific task. However, the powerful hardware that supports this software is also usually called a server because server software coordinating a network of hundreds or thousands of clients requires hardware much more robust than what you'd buy for ordinary consumer use."

From those two definitions, we can infer that a server just like a PC or laptop consists of both the hardware and the software. That means that, by installing the right software or operating system on your laptop, it can be used as a mini server for a dedicated purpose. However, as the needs and requirements of the server begin to increase, many organizations prefer to used dedicated systems built for the purpose of serving as servers.

If you work in a big organization, you will more than likely have a room where access is not only restricted but the ACs are always on to ensure the servers are cool at any given time. It is in situations like that you hear of terms like server rack, expansion, backup, and other terminologies IT experts used between themselves.

Cloud Computing
There are those who argue that a server can be in the cloud. That is true to an extent, after all, we all use email services like yahoo, google and other enterprise solutions like Oracle, SAP and database services like MySQL and these applications will not be able to store our data if they were not holding them for us. So for the user, in this case, his server may be on the cloud where he does not have physical access to the server, but every cloud storage or computing is backed by physical storage somewhere. These are the companies that spend their resources, talent and time to build and manage the infrastructure, from which they now rent out access to customers to make use of. So in addition to cloud servers, you can also have proxy servers, dedicated servers, web servers, email servers, and application servers.

Database
If you have understood it up to this point, then comes the issue of the database. This is what in my opinion causes a lot of confusion on the server/ no server debate. According to Wikipedia, "A database server is a server that uses a database application that provides database services to other computer programs or to computers, as defined by the client-server model. ... Examples of proprietary database applications include Oracle, DB2, Informix, and Microsoft SQL Server. Examples of free software database applications include PostgreSQL; and under the GNU General Public Licence include Ingres and MySQL. Every server uses its own query logic and structure. The SQL (Structured Query Language) query language is more or less the same on all relational database applications. "

To illustrate this, let us use a platform that we can all relate with, the bank. When you walk into a banking hall requesting to open an account, you are given a form to fill (hard or online), with the information you provide, the bank official logs into an interface that he has access to and creates a record based on the information you provide. As soon as that information is saved, the data will go into the base's database. The bank then issues you a unique identifier, on the surface, it may be the account number but behind the scene, the database will have a more unique way of identifying each record.
What happens when you walk into the bank to withdraw some money? The bank software can determine that it is you who is making the withdrawal and not mistakenly go and withdraw money from another person who has the same name as you. The amount of money stored at the server or backend as your balance is immediately updated with the new information based on your last transaction.
Now, can the backend store the exact denomination that was paid to you? No, the updated information on the server does not care if you were paid all in 1,000 naira bills or even coins, all it cares about is that you had an amount X before the transaction and you now have an amount Y after the transaction.

What if the bank wants to know the denomination that is used to pay each customer, can they do it?

Theoretically yes they can. Remember we said a server has both the software and the hardware? The software can then be configured to include that as part of the data that should be captured. Does that mean more work for the bank staff? Yes? Is it possible? Yes.

Can you have a database without a server?
Yes, we all have some sort of database or the other. When we want to fetch the phone number of a friend from our phones we access the contacts database on our phone. If we compile a list of companies in your location, you store them in some sort of database. But when the database begins to get very large then you will need a dedicated server for it.
So when someone says to you that a server was deleted, is that syntactically correct? I cannot answer that for you. I will give you some hints though. If we say that a server can be both a hardware and software just like your laptop, so do you think that the laptop you are using can be deleted?

Perhaps, a better question will be, can the data in a database be created, modified or deleted? then the answer is an overwhelming yes, however, because of how sensitive data on a server can be, the right to delete is usually restricted. Consider, for example, an intern at a bank deleting the account information of a major corporation, it is almost unheard of because of the levels of control, access rights, and barriers. There are also backups that are updated periodically to forestall such occurrences.
Now, you can choose to interpret what has been said here to fit your belief in the INEC server debacle.

Atiku is playing for the Gullible.

Many can't even operate a PC effectively. Atiku is screaming Server, Database, Transmission, Electronic, etc and many "smoke and fire" mentalities are suspending their hopes on it.

Atiku cannot steal the Presidency through the back door. We voted on ballot paper, votes counted and announced. This is in line with the laws. Atiku lost, even in his own polling unit in front of his house where he voted.

Those that voted on the Card reader, calculated their votes on the card readers and transmitted it, can go to Atiku's Dubai Servers and download their results.

In court, the Judges interpret the Law. It is not their job to rewrite it. Saraki already tried and failed.

The only way for Atiku to win is to throw out the constitution, write new one and use it to judge the case.

As you can see, it is Impossible.

Justice should prevail. Atiku lost. He cannot use fancy dubious scheme and steal the Presidency through the back door.

Atiku is not debating the results we all participated in as announced by INEC. Rather Atiku has has an entirely different set of results he compiled.

No single Nigerian voted in card reader, calculated and transmitted their votes electronically. Atiku is basically forcing us to accept a strange set of results.

Oga Server is a physical hardware. Atiku wanted to physically Inspect it.

Since he lost that battle, through Reno, Atiku is floating something else - Visual Server.

Atiku is a desperate man. The only thing that has eluded him is Presidency. Atiku will do and say anything to get their. We are just giving him enough rope to hang himself.

Nigerians r yet to realise that Atiku is not saying that there was rigging in the election or even disputing results as announced by INEC.He simply manufactured his own results n is forcing us to accept them while erroneously admitting that he hacked govt facilities to obtain them.

I never knew that Atiku could look 200m Nigerians in the eyes n call us fools.

A COMPUTER CAN BE MADE A SERVER BY INSTALLING A PROGRAMING SOFTWARE WHICH CAN BE ACCESS BY OTHER COMPUTERS ANY WERE THAT RUN WITH NETWORK AND ONCE THE PROGRAMING SOFTWARE ARE FORMATTED OUT THE SERVER OR THE COMPUTER ARE TAKING OUT OF NETWORK IT CAN NO LONGER BE ACCESSIBLE

Re: INEC Server: Can A Server Be Deleted? Separating Facts From Fiction by frugal(m): 6:37pm On Jul 16, 2019
Sure. You don't need to google it. We have sys admins here.

A server can be a combo of hardware and software. But majorly software.

A server accepts a request, processes it and sends the result back. It can also store the processed information depending on what you programmed it to do.

Yes, a software server can be deleted along with its database.

I'll give you a layman example.

I bought and setup a VPS (virtual private server) many years ago (2008) to serve requests for a java app that authenticates users before they can access the functions of the client app on their PC. I ran this for several months with multiple users till I decided to close shop. All I did was just delete my java software + the database from the VPS. Then put in a request to the hosting company to terminate my services. And that's it, everything gone. But guess what? I made a local backup on my PC. So I could relaunch it today in just a couple of hours or even minutes if I wanted to.

So again, yes, server can be deleted. Server is mostly software that relies on computer machine to accept and serve requests.

OP, I can see you're trying hard to be neither here nor there
but that's not necessary.

Technically, Server is the software
When we talk about a server being deleted (cleaned, wiped etc), it is the
software we refer to (not the hardware).

The hardware component (laptop, desktop etc) is simply a housing for the server.

Bros na wah for you o. This guy was painstaking in explaining a process for you. He never judged. He left people to comprehend and bring out facts. It is not a question of supporting Atiku or Buhari. The issues here are Server hardware, Software and storage space. When you store in cloud, that is storage. The storage rests on a physical hardware controlled by a software. The question again is can a server be deleted? He went on to even use database examples. Database example talks about information which is a group of related records. The server in itself is a hardware and has an IP related to it. Reno misled people by the use of delete. You can take a server offline when you do the iprelease on it but you can NEVER delete a server. Now when you do a trace outside of the environment of server to get the ip of a server, you are more or less intruding into an environment and that is criminal in itself. It is very funny where this server thing will get to but I know some people will go to jail after this case. So bros try to equip yourself with facts about the topic you are contributing to so that you do not appear lost.

What are you implying that INEC doesn't have a server?
If they have let them give permission to access it..
Someone brought your number that you called and threatened him you said that is not your number yet you are taking court injunction against going to your network operators to release your info.
INEC should release their server address so we can see the information contained.
It is for Nigerians.

The bold parts is as simple as ABC.

My friend stop fooling yourself.

You don't need to become it specialist to know that server can be deleted or remove or block from being access.

Even me that is talking knows this not because I am it person.

The topic you created is not making any sense Brother.

Sincerely, you are the one not making sense and not the OP.

This thread was created to get information from the opposition PDP on how to delete information from a server.

Reno was right after all. Someone is trying to delete sensitive material.
