A U.S. warship destroyed an Iranian drone in the Strait of Hormuz amid heightened tensions between the two countries, President Trump announced Thursday.

“The U.S. reserves the right to defend personnel, facilities, interests,” he said.

Trump said the USS Boxer took defensive action after the drone closed to within 1,000 yards of the warship and ignored multiple calls to stand down. The president called it the latest “hostile” action by Iran.

Marines on board took down the drone using electronic jamming equipment, U.S. officials told Fox News later Thursday.


The device, known as the Light Marine Air Defense Integrated System, deployed for the first time in January aboard the USS Kearsarge, the same class of warship as the USS Boxer.

Trump also called on other countries to condemn what he described as Iran’s attempts to disrupt the freedom of navigation and global commerce in the strategic waterway in the Persian Gulf region.

Iran was going to record video and brag of how close they were with the warship, the us only allowed precious drones to record and go to avoid incidents but the Iranians took it for weaknesses, it has begun.

Both countries won't get into any physical clash, it will be too dangerous for the Middle East and the world economy at large . I'm happy they both are destroying drones, it should end there.

US must surely find a way to revenge Iran for the downing of their drone last month without going bloody with the Persians, this is a perfect one. The words of war can continue on the front pages of newspaper between the two countries.

It was a war that turned into a political disaster at home with mass protests and anti-war movement sweeping across US. He decided not to run for 2nd term because he knew his fate, this was a president that started his presidential life with good approval rating and great applause but the Vietnam war changed his destiny. It was Richard Nixon that succeeded him.

George Bush snr. lost the 1992 election after the gulf war with Iraq. He lost that election to Bill Clinton despite the success of the war but I think the advantage Trump have here is that his Domestic policies are good.
