One of the earliest practices final year undergraduates are made to do after their research project topic is approved is to present a proposal. This document contains the framework of your research project. It is expected that students defend it same way they would when presenting the actual research project; this is done to ascertain your level of interest and understanding of the issue you want to research on.

So, here are helpful tips on how to present your research project proposal with confidence;

Share your project proposal among the panel members
Once it gets to your turn, get in and greet (if necessary); the next thing you should do is to share the document containing your proposal among the panel members. This will enable them scan through, follow up with what you have to say and help them know what question to ask you.

Although they may likely trust what you say than what is written in the document, it is necessary they have a copy so they can edit your topic where necessary or give you a new topic if need be.

Present the ‘statement of problem
As one of the main reasons you are presenting a project proposal, the statement of problem should be stated in simple and grammatically accurate prose. If possible, read it and maintain eye contact with the defense panel. Sometimes they may ask you to elaborate more on the problem; try doing justice to that showing your level of understanding of the issue on ground.

Present the research methods you have adopted
Tell them about the research technique you have adopted, the research population, sampling procedure, sample size, instrument for data gathering and anything else you need to add under this category.
