Yes volunteering beats staying at home all day frustrated and depressed. Volunteering gives you a purpose to wake up, take a bath and leave the house, doing so boosts your morale, ego and self esteem. Also volunteering might make you cross path with someone in a position to give you a job offer. And most importantly, volunteering looks good on your CV because potential employers see you as a dedicated person who would rather gain experience without pay than languish at home.

But besides volunteering and hopping from one job interview to another, you should try to think outside the box. Some of the apps we use today were created by teenagers just experimenting with silly ideas that became huge successes. I mean who would've thought that an app that creates 10 seconds videos that self destructs will be as wildly popular as it is today (Snapchat in the early days). Or the recent craze for tiktok the Chinese app that allows people to video themselves lip synching to songs would be the #1 most downloaded social media app in recent weeks? Look around you and create something, anything. I have a friend who's trying to create a Nigerian Gofundme type site where you can donate money for social causes, this is thinking outside the box.

When I finished school, I couldn't get a job so i started a dating/escort service named Rent-A_Cock. Needless to say it was a one man company run by me but it got traction. I advertised on social media and little by little I started getting female clients just looking for a guy to flirt with on whatsapp or over the phone. Premium packages involved me giving them massages or even posing as their boyfriends at social events. Super ultra premium services involved erotic details I cannot divulge online. But today, the company has grown to 30 employees in 5 states and and growing exponentially.

Moral of the story, I'm not saying you should become a male giggolo but staying home and doing nothing is the worst course of action for a jobless youth.

is your service still active. check your mail

They are a non- governmental organization. They are into creating massive social activities, such as excursions, travels n tour, sporting competition, organizing social event and activities... We will place the advert on nairaland and other social media platforms before the week runs out, we need only 250 per state. It promise to be exciting... Kindly join if you are not too busy...

Never despise the days of your little beginnings no matter how cruel they came. As we walk along the journey of life, let us continue to celebrate little successes and also appreciate how far it's takes us. Add to your work experience by working for yourself to the benefit of others with your zero working experience

Job Volunteering has so far proven to be the most effective way to garner the work experience employers always crave for, this is because these companies need your skills and you need the experience too. Don't sit at home  accumulating years of joblessness, Go out and volunteer

A 4 year degree attained after 7 years is still a degree. A graduation at 50 is still a graduation. A business started at 65 is still a business. You are never too old to have a new dream... It's okay to start over. Don’t let people confine you with their timelines of success, just start somewhere.

When Volunteering, Remember that the day you plant the seed is not the day you eat the fruit. A little patience. Keep going. Don't give up. Your time will surely come. I will discuss what you need to be a volunteer and the tips on how to go about it down this post.

I do not want to talk about the possibility of  retention or recommendation for your service, that's obviously a positive we are aware and sure of.

Come to think of it. Do you know that volunteering experience can actually improve you efficiency when you get a Job with a seemingly hostile Boss? Jobs and salaries are advertised for you to choose, but bosses are not advertised for you to choose. If we assume the statistics, you will agree that some people get the privilege of many interviews with one offer, while only a few get Multiple offers within short period such that the interval is not enough to fully understand your colleagues to reach such a conclusion as 'bad boss'. No matter how devilish a person is, there is someone that acts to his/her style with commendation, and you might be that person. Hearsay can never be trusted. What you have learned over time as a volunteer worker can ease your fears when you get the Job.

You won’t be able to find a good boss until you work with the person long enough to know him/her well.. However, you can control your attitude. If you are at the lowest rank of the organisation and you don’t have a choice but to stay in the organisation, dealing with a “bad boss” is not easy. But having the right attitude, combined with a good skill to handle situations(based on your volunteer time incidences and not taking things personal ), you should be fine. But of course, if you’re looking for progress and you can’t see it with that boss, then you have to take a leap of faith & find the better opportunity where you will grow together as a boss and as an employee.

When you volunteer, have a purpose!

A lot of people want to do good and feel good after it and that’s all. While volunteering might be a good thing, it might also turn out to be beneficial, depending on the reason why it’s done initially.

Many young people who are so energetic jump from one project site to another, accumulating various volunteer titles and losing count on all the teams they are part of. In the end, there’s no significant value added to them.

If you want to derive value from volunteering, then you need to transition to being a purpose-driven volunteer.

What do you need to as a Volunteer? or do we go about it?

I'm one of those who has lost counts of events they volunteered for cry Staying idle is just boring but going out there to do something for yourself and humanity? Best feeling ever. Changing my volunteering experience from NGOs to normal work place soon sha.. Let us get a taste of that too grin So, should you know a child care hospital, counselling agency or radio station in Lagos that allows volunteers, please tell me wink

You don't always have to join an organization to volunteer, you could just decide to be part of some events, like, community cleaning, walk against child labour e.t.c

It's always best to be a registered volunteer for at least, one organization sha. You can simply search for 'NGOs on *your area of interest* in *your location*' and reach out to them.

Another tip that can help, especially if you are not a university student is that you can get contacts of students in your base who are involved in these things to share info with you or you could follow them online . You can find them on IG or FB by using #volunteersfor*your area of interest' e.g #volunteersforhumanrightadvocacy and so on.

If you are in Kwara state and you want to get into volunteering, feel free to send me a private message.
