The Niger Delta University is a Bayelsa State owned University located in the Wilberforce Island, Bayelsa State. The school address which was earlier Amassoma, the host community was later changed to Wilberforce Island, a name depicting a subset of the community. Currently, the Niger Delta University uses Wilberforce Island as its official address. The incumbent Vice Chancellor of the University is Prof. Samuel G. Edoumiekumo who mounted the leadership of the institution since 2017 as the acting Vice Chancellor but became the substantive Vice Chancellor in 2018. Till date, the VC has been widely acknowledged as the best VC so far the institution has ever had. Although fans of Professor Chris Ikporukpo, a former VC of the institution, still prefer him to the incumbent, the incumbent VC’s administrative policies especially as regards internet inclusions and utility has far surpassed those of Chris Ikporukpo. Faculties and Departments The University runs on eleven (11) Faculties. These are Faculty of Education, Arts, Engineering, Law, Management Sciences, Science, Social Sciences, Agriculture, Basic Medical Sciences, Nursing and Pharmacy. Under the above Faculties, we have about 42 Departments. The list of Faculties and Departments are as follows: Faculty of Education Vocational and Technology Education Arts Education Social Science Education Educational Foundations Science Education Library and Information Science Faculty of Science Biological Sciences Geology Pure and Applied Chemistry (Chemistry) Biochemistry Computer Science Mathematics Physics Faculty of Management Sciences Finance and Banking Office and Information Management Accountancy Business Administration Marketing Faculty of Social Sciences Geography and Environmental Management Political Science Sociology Economics Faculty of Arts Theatre Arts Philosophy Religious Studies Fine and Applied Arts English and Literary Studies History and Diplomacy Faculty of Agricultural Science Fisheries Production Technology Crop Production Technology Econs. & Rural Sociology Livestock Production Technology Faculty of Engineering Agricultural & Environmental Engineering Chemical/Petrochemical Engineering Civil Engineering Electrical/Electronics Engineering Mechanical Engineering Faculty of Law Law Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences Medicine and Surgery Medical Laboratory Microbiology Faculty of Pharmacy Pharmacy Faculty of Nursing Nursing Administration The University administration like many other academic institutions is dichotomized into two administrative dimensions with the Vice Chancellor holding sway to academic administration while the Registrar administers other non-academic concerns. At the lower level, the Faculties are headed by the Deans of Faculties. The Faculties are further subdivided into Departments for easy administration. These Departments are headed by the Heads of Departments (H.O.D.s). The HODs are responsible for the smooth running of academic activities at the Department level. They also apportion courses to individual lecturers. The functions of the HODs also includes: Allocation of courses, Supervision of subordinates, Supervision of examination and grading system Exercise of Discretion Serve as a representative of the Department in various committees he is so nominated For more information about the Deans and HODs, please, visit the Faculty of Education, Niger Delta University portal Administration Admissions The Niger Delta University admits students yearly through the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). The institution also admits students through Direct Entry. With this provision, students who already have Diploma, NCE, JUPEB or any other equivalent certification can then apply for the Niger Delta University Direct Entry. To apply for admission into the Niger Delta University through JAMB, you will need to purchase the JAMB form upon release. Write and score a minimum of 150 score. 150 is the minimum cutoff score to enable you apply for its Post UTME Examinations. However, 150 May be too small for courses like Medicine and its associates. So, to gain more advantage, endeavour to score 200 and above. This is because those who will score very high are many. Before all those who score high will be selected till it gets to 150, the Department may have been filled, so, scoring very high is very important and advantageous. For Direct Entry (DE), you will also need to buy the Direct Entry form. This form is sold together with the JAMB form. It is always on sale around December through February of every academic session. Once purchased, JAMB sends your form to the NDU for consideration. For JUPEB students in the NDU, they will also need to purchase the form to enable them to be considered for admission. Merely undergoing JUPEB does not guarantee admission. You must also buy DE form as you are undergoing the JUPEB programme. School Fees The school fees of the Niger Delta University vary from Department to Department or from course to course. This variation is as a consequence of the needs of various courses. Succinctly put, the lowest school fees for year one is N110,000. This is for indigenes, while the highest is N200,000 for non-indigenes. On the other hand, the lowest school fees for final year is N35,000. Previously, you have to go to the office of the Dean of Students’ Affairs, collect hostel form, go to the bank and pay the 15,000, then you will come to the café and do online registration. After about a week or so, you will check back in your online profile. If you have been allocated, it will appear. Then you will print the form out which will contain your passport.
