Flood is something that occurred in every path of the world... Either a developed or underdeveloped country. We Nigerians should stop see wester. Countries as neighbours to paradise they have their flaws so do we.

While I agree that everywhere in the world is prone to natural disasters like flooding, storm etc, it should be noted that the major reason for flooding in OUR own part of the world is due to negligence from the government and the citizens... Lagos is a typical example of a state with a high level of environmental negligence; no waste bins on the walkways so everyone litters, no master plan for waste disposal or recycling, canals are not well dredged and cleared on a routine basis and most drainage channels around the Lagos metropolis are shallow...

God has blessed Africa so much, we don't know we have the best environment in the world. If we had winter in Nigeria, God knows how many people would be dying due to the cold weather cos we wouldn't be able to manage...

We are getting somewhere.

Our environment and indeed our country is our collective responsibility.

For years, we've overlooked every single factor for immediate gains, the consequences we are presently reaping.

Our borders have been porous for years, now we have outsiders running the rule over our roads. We've encouraged smuggling, killing our local businesses, leading to less employment of the masses.

Same with our environment.

Satchets of water disposed of without thought. Plastics, non biodegradables, cutting corners in construction, paying off supervisors.

Nigeria is what Nigerians have made it.

Exactly! But so much depends on LEADERSHIP as the bulk of the power for change lies there... We shouldn't blame the citizens for what the few political aristocrats caused. The common man always relies on the working pattern in the environment, but massive reorientation is necessary, coupled with a strong political will for change, not just the ones we see on their campaign posters...

When it happens abroad, we give a "reasonable explanation" for it. But if it happens here, then it's because of corruption, bad leadership, blah blah blah.
I see this as a sign of severe low self-esteem and slavery mentality.

People will blame the leadership of the country and they're right to do so. Now how many times have you heard of flooding in New York? Compare it to Lagos where it happens every year even when we all know the problem is drainage? Do we have an effective waste management plan in place? How many canals were planned to accommodate the growing water use of the every growing population?

Please don't even start! We are far behind schedule as a nation! Leadership is the major issue sir!
