Liverpool (Possible, 4-4-2): Reina; Johnson, Kyrgiakos, Skrtel, Carragher; Meireles, Pulsen; Jovanovic, Gerrard, Cole; Torres.

Referee: Howard Webb. Matches: 4. R0 Y16.

Tale of the game
It is gloom time on Merseyside with these teams occupying two of the bottom four places in the Premier League. Liverpool are in the relegation zone – in 18th spot – while Everton are on the same points (6) but have a slightly better goal difference and are in 17th.

At this stage last season, Liverpool were third with 15 points while Everton were ninth with nine. Now Liverpool have six points, the fewest they have won from the opening seven games since three points were introduced, in 1981.

Liverpool have now gone four games without a League win, their worst run since January 2008 when they drew four and lost one of five games.

But in their last 10 Premier League visits to Goodison Park, Liverpool have won eight, including the last three. Last season, Joseph Yobo scored an own goal to give Liverpool the lead before Dirk Kuyt made it 2-0.

And in this derby game home and away, Everton have failed to win in the last seven meetings. Their last success over their closest rivals came at Goodison Park, in September 2006, when Tim Cahill opened the scored and Andrew Johnson added two more for a 3-0 win.

Both teams could be missing key players. Everton’s Phil Jagielka, who pulled out of the England squad with a hamstring strain, is out while Liverpool are likely to miss Fernando Torres, with a groin problem. Roy Hodgson’s team is also set to be without Paul Konchesky, Daniel Agger and Fabio Aurelio again so Jamie Carragher may have to deputise again at left back.

Last season: Everton 0 Liverpool 2, Liverpool 1 Everton 0

Stat of the game: There have been 19 red cards in games between thesetwo rivals, the most in the Premier League.
