Overview of Ovarian Cyst
Do you often have stomach pain, which is not related to your menstrual flow, and you always find it challenging to figure out the cause of the stomach pain? Does your menstrual flow often come lighter or heavier than usual? Do you always have a problem with emptying your bladder or you always have the urge to urinate frequently? If you are a woman and your answer to all of the above is in the affirmative, then you might need to go to the nearest hospital around you as you may have an ovarian cyst.

An ovarian cyst is a common anomaly among the womenfolk, and it is usually as a result of the membrane of the ovary having an opening where fluid enters from. Although, there are times the membrane could be filled with semi-solid particles instead of fluid. Once you start experiencing this pain or bleeding, then it is advisable to visit your doctor for medical advice.
Types of Ovarian Cyst
Ovarian cysts are generally classified into two types: Functional and Pathological ovarian cyst. The functional ovarian cyst is very common among women. Although it is mostly harmless and appears during the menstrual period only. However, the pathological cysts are inimical as they tend to grow in either or both of the ovaries.
Hence, once you notice that your stomach pain has lasted for days, and it is not during your menstrual flow. You might need to contact your medical personnel to be diagnosed and be sure you are not a victim of the harmful pathological cyst. Removing pathological cyst that has grown over 5 centimeters long is always recommended. The pathological cyst is of two types; cystadenomas that are common to women of over 40 years of age and the dermoid cyst is the one common to women that are under 30 years bracket.
Treatment
Treating ovarian cyst depends on the age of the patient
This is the major reason it is advisable to seek your doctor's medical advice after been diagnosed with an ovarian cyst. Also, the patient might need to observe the cyst to know the next step especially if it is a functional cyst. Birth control pills might also be recommended for use. Surgical removal is only advised if the cyst is pathological, and it is over five centimeters long.
Prevention of Ovarian Cyst
It is almost impossible to prevent ovarian cyst
This is because there is no medical proof yet on how it can be prevented. However, early diagnosis can help to put its activity into check and prevent harmful complications.
