…as Lai, Nanono, Mamman appear for screening

The Senate will confirm ministerial nominees of President Muhammadu Buhari today, Senate President Ahmad Lawan has said. Lawan, who spoke at the end of plenary around 7:20pm yesterday, also said three nominees – Sabo Nanono (Kano), Lai Mohammed (Kwara) and Saleh Mamman (Taraba) – would be screened today. “Tomorrow (today) by the grace of God, we will be taking three nominees. We will do the approval and confirmation of all the screened nominees tomorrow (today),” he said.

Nine nominees including Gbemisola Saraki (Kwara), Goddy Jedy-Agba (Cross River), Sulaiman Adamu (Jigawa), Maryam Katagun (Bauchi), Clement Agba (Edo), Geoffrey Onyeama (Enugu), Muhammad Mahmoud (Kaduna) Babatunde Raji Fashola (Lagos) and Rauf Aregbesola (Osun) were screened yesterday. Three of the nominees – Dr. Muhammad Mahmoud, Gbemisola Saraki and Maryam Katagum – were accorded the ‘take a bow and go’ privilege during the exercise. Out of the 40 nominees so far screened, 21 of them took a bow and go.

Fashola advocates N10tr infrastructure bond Speaking during the screening exercise, Fashola advocated for the introduction of N10tr infrastructure bond. He said the only way to address the infrastructural challenges facing the country was the introduction of infrastructure bond. He said the bond should be backed by legislative instrument and that people should be able to invest as low as N1,000. “There is need for us to expand instrument like the Sukuk. We should consider something like N10tr infrastructure bond issued in tranches. People can invest to address infrastructural challenges,” he said.

Fashola also said state governments can generate power and invest in the sector, citing the third schedule, article, 13,14 and 15, of the 1999 constitution. He said at the moment, the federal government has road projects at least one in each state of the federation. I’ll push for ‘just tax regime’ – Aregbesola Aregbesola said he is going to push for a new tax regime to raise the country’s revenue. He said he would recommend a serious tax against wealthy Nigerians, adding that he would pioneer “privilege taxes” for those who have huge resources.

If confirmed, Aregbesola said, “I will advocate for a just taxation system that will bridge the inequality in the system.” No need to import petroleum products – Agba For his part, Goddy Jedy-Agba said there was no need for the country to be importing petroleum products. Agba, a former Group General Manager, Crude Oil Marketing Division of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), said he would recommend the establishment of control room for monitoring of crude oil loading. “We don’t need to import petroleum products. What we need to do is to strengthen the various agencies to checkmate the actual crude being loaded and write report.

“We do not have the technology to monitor the process of loading up to the point of export. For now, it is the International Oil Companies that determine the quantity of crude they export because we don’t have control over their operations. “If I am in that ministry, I will push for the establishment of a control room where we will monitor the process of crude loading up to the point of export. We can do that Nigeria,” he said.

Also speaking, a former minister of Foreign Affairs, Onyeama, lamented how paucity of fund has been hindering the country’s foreign missions. “One of the ways to address the challenges facing the foreign missions is to further reduce the number of missions,” he said.

To be candid i don't even know the essence of this screening. I have never seen any nominee screened out. This time it is even worse just "Bow and Go" that is all.
The National Assembly need to help us enact a law where the Portfolios of the Nominee will be attached before screening. Then we can have a better screening.

Pls i need an urgent answer.
I took Parlodel because my breast was still bringing out milk months after my baby girl stop sucking. I later took in and gave birth but d child have Adrenal Hyperplasia and Ambiguous Instruments. My question is what can cause a baby to have Ambiguous Instruments/Adrenal Hyperplasia? because I have think and think I didn't take any other drugs before taking in apart from d Parlodel.

Answer:
Unfortunately Parlodel is not responsible for this. CAH is a genetic disorder.

#ATGCongenital adrenal hyperplasia

Congenital adrenal hyperplasia is a group of inherited conditions that are present at birth (congenital) where the adrenal gland is larger than usual (hyperplasia). In CAH, the body is missing an enzyme that stimulates the adrenal glands to release the cortisol hormone.
Lacking this hormone means that the body is less able to cope with stress, either emotionally or physically, which can be life threatening. It also makes the level of androgen (male hormone) increase, which causes male characteristics to appear early in boys or inappropriately in girls.

What causes CAH?
CAH is an inherited disorder – that is, it is passed on from parent to child. Most types of CAH are autosomal recessive disorders. This means that both parents are carriers of the disease. Human beings have about 30,000 to 40,000 different genes, each of which has a function in making an individual person. The genes are arranged in pairs (one of the pair from each parent) on 23 chromosomes.
Inevitably, some of these genes are faulty. A normal gene can overcome a faulty one, but if both genes in the pair are faulty, the genetic instructions cannot work. Most people carry different faulty genes but in CAH (and other recessive conditions) parents, though healthy themselves, carry the same faulty genes, and risk passing them on to their children. Each pregnancy carries:
• a 25 per cent chance of the child being affected
• a 75 per cent chance of the child not being affected
In a small proportion of people, CAH is caused by a gene mutation (change) that happens by chance and cannot be predicted.
CAH affects boys and girls in equal numbers, affecting between one in 10,000 and one in 18,000 children born each year.

What are the signs and symptoms of CAH?
The symptoms that present and the age at which they become apparent depends on the degree of cortisol and/or aldosterone deficiency.
Boys with severe CAH show symptoms soon after birth, when a baby develops heart rhythm abnormalities, dehydration and vomiting. The levels of minerals (electrolytes) in the body are also affected, particularly showing low salt levels (hyponatraemia) and low blood sugar levels (hypoglycaemia).
Females with severe CAH are born with virilised (male looking) Instruments, so confusion as to the gender of the baby may occur. This is referred to as ambiguous Instruments. They too have low levels of minerals, especially salt, so show similar symptoms to boys.
Children with mild CAH may not have the same mineral imbalances as more severely affected children.
Later, other symptoms caused by the increase in androgen develop. Girls will have abnormal or absent periods, a deep voice, early puberty and facial hair. Boys will have an enlarged penis, small testicles, early puberty and a deep voice. Both girls and boys may appear tall for their age but usually end up being short as adults.

How is CAH diagnosed?
Most cases of CAH are diagnosed soon after birth or in early childhood, but less severe CAH may not become apparent until a child does not start puberty at the expected age. CAH can be diagnosed before birth now that the affected gene has been identified. If the baby is an affected female, steroid treatment during pregnancy can reduce the effect of too much androgen in the body.
If a baby is born with ambiguous Instruments, blood tests are usually used to determine genetic gender. Blood and urine tests are also used to work out the levels of minerals and hormones in the body, so that they can be replaced. X-rays to look at a child’s bone age may also be suggested. Genetic testing may be used to identify the specific type of CAH and the associated gene deficiency or mutation.

How is CAH treated?
Children with CAH are usually cared for by a multidisciplinary team including endocrinologists (hormone specialists) and urologists (genitourinary system specialists).
Initially, children with CAH will need to be stabilised with intravenous fluids to restore their electrolyte levels. Once stable, cortisol and/or aldosterone replacement therapy can start with repeated blood tests to monitor hormone levels so the most effective dose can be prescribed. Children with CAH will need to take replacement cortisol and aldosterone every day for the rest of their lives.
However, if a person with cortisol deficiency becomes very stressed or unwell, either emotionally or physically, they are unable to increase the production of cortisol in their system to help the body cope and this could be life threatening.
Females with CAH may require surgery to correct virilised genitals carried out by surgeons specialised in disorders of sex development. If precocious puberty (puberty starting before the expected age) occurs, further hormone replacement may be required.

What happens next?
Long term follow up monitoring is essential for children with CAH. They will need regular blood tests to monitor hormone levels in the body and adjustments of steroid replacement doses. Many children have short stature as they grow older so may benefit from growth hormone therapy.
Males usually have normal fertility levels but females may have problems conceiving so may require additional help to have children. Once pregnant, females with CAH should carry the baby to term but may require a caesarean section to deliver.
As CAH is an inherited disorder, genetic counselling may be helpful.

JOKERS!

It is not like screening will ensure we have the best people to do the jobs.

What moral standing do rigged in Senators have to screen the candidates?

We are here wasting time on inanities that will not improve the economy!

The UK Prime Minister has a cabinet in place already and has started his job.

Our President was rigelected in February, sworn in May 29th and 2 months later, we are still trying to form a cabinet

Enough said
