Born on 26th June, 1926 at the ancient city of Ado-Ekiti. Trained as a soldier at the Defence Academy and at the Eaton Officers Candidate School, UK. He moved up in ranks and became the first military governor of the former Western Region, Yorubaland.
He was a gallant Yoruba man who died defending nobel integrity. He was hosting the then military head of state at the Yoruba seat of power; Ibadan on that fateful day when the counter coupists arrived to overthrow

Why Was He Killed??

Adekunle Fajuyi did not commit any crime than the fact that he was playing host to Ironsi [the then military head of state] on July 29,1966 when Northern officers who staged a revenge coup following the Kaduna Nzeogwu-led coup of January 15,1966 struck. Disgruntled Northern officers led by Murtala Mohammed, TY Danjuma,Martin Adamu and others spearheaded a rebellion within the army after the event of January [where Nigeria's major politicians were assassinated] .

Fajuyi was killed together with Ironsi by northern army,but yorubas because of fear they have for northerns change the narrative that Fajuyi decided to die with Ironsi,just because they dont want to confront hausafulanis for killing their brother.

Too many lies have been told concerning the first military coup and the counter coup.
In the book "Why we Struck" by Major Adewale Ademoyega, one of the January mutineers and a Yoruba officer like Fajuyi. Ademoyega states that Fajuyi supported the first coup, knew of it and made suggestions to plotters on how it could be best carried out. According to Ademoyega, that he did not actively participate was only as a result of his posting at the time the coup was launched. However findings have shown that it was at a training camp in Kachia commanded by Lt. Col. Fajuyi, that Major Nzeogwu rehearsed the assault on Sardauna's house in the presence of some northern mortar officers who did not appreciate the significance of the exercise until after the coup. In T.Y. Danjuma's words, "The chaps could not stomach Fajuyi such that if there was anybody who should die first, as far as they were concerned, it was Fajuyi, not even Ironsi."
So in the real sense, Fajuyi did not sacrifice himself for anyone.
