Francis Okiye, speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, has opened a legal suit at the Federal High Court Abuja to stop the National Assembly from taking over the state assembly’s functions.

The state’s seventh assembly was inaugurated on controversial circumstances on June 17, when nine out of 24 members-elect during elected Mr Okiye as the speaker around 9 p.m.

The National Assembly had given the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, one week to issue fresh proclamation on the assembly or it would take over the assembly’s functions.

The House of Representatives had made a similar threat.

In an originating summon and a motion on notice for interlocutory injunction filed by the speaker and the state assembly, the plaintiffs asked Justice Nkeonye Maha to restrain the National Assembly from going ahead with its plans pending the hearing on the matter.

The suit was instituted on July 17 against the Clerk of the National Assembly (first defendant), Mohammed Sani-Omolori; and the National Assembly (second defendant).

The matter, which was brought before Justice Maha on July 23, was adjourned until July 31 for hearing since the parties were yet to be served.

Lead counsel to the plaintiffs, Ola Olanipekun, on Wednesday, told the court that after the defendants had been properly served as ordered by the court, the Senate on July 30 still went ahead and passed a resolution for the takeover of the assembly if the governor fails to comply with its resolution.

The judge adjourned the case until August 7 to enable the complainants respond to the counter affidavit and written address filed by lawyers to the National Assembly.

The National Assembly was foolish enough to want to dance to the tune of Oshiomhole. They forgot they have no business in the Edu state case.

All 24 members were duky elected by the people to serve.
Its an equal right for everyone of them to have been present during the inauguration of the house.
Those yet to be sworn in, should be sworn in, an let's allow equal participation by all.

See what Obaseki's ignorance and greed is resorting to?
Why not just do the right and proper thing for once? For how long are we going to continue standing logic on its head? All because some people don't like Oshiomole doesn't mean, we should be blind to the evil tricks of Obaseki.

Why inaugurate 3 members secretly without involving all house members? And then these same 3 elected their speaker and Obaseki pldid the proclamation? What does he think Edo is? His father's personal property? What nonsense!

Denying other constituencies their rights and liberty in EDHA? If Obaseki was popular enough, he didn't need to hijack the house with those few guys. The whole house would have just done his bidding.

For those spewing rubbish and ignorant of what the processes are, when a State assembly falls into this kind of chaos, it is constitutional for NASS to take over. So all ignoramuses should leave Oshiomhole out of this.
Obaseki has been a visionary Governor no doubt but his attempt to cross over into naija style politics will kill his career. That's not his calling. Every honourable member of EDHA is there to represent their constituency and have equal rights to the state!

In the end, Obaseki will just make Edo suffer for nothing! And as for 2nd term, he should kiss it goodbye! Is it the house members he's humikating that will support him? Is it his national APC that will support him? Or his estranged oga oshiomole that will support him? If he then decamps, as long as APC holds the national , he's finished. They are calling him to order and he's busy whipping cheap sentiments and misinforming the public about his actions.

Obaseki means well for Edo state but he lost that chance when he initiated himself into the kind of politics that brought him to power. The same kind of politics he is trying to practice and he thinks it will end well? Nah.

Obaseki, do the right thing.

COMRADE ADAMS OSHIOMOLE IS DESTROYING THE VERY FOUNDATION HE WORKS SO HARD TO BUILD IN EDO STATE.

He is suppose to hold the olive branch and let bygone be bygone but rather he is hosting political thugs in FCT Abuja from where he use these guys to forment trouble in Edo state.

What a wrong ways to end his political carreer.

If one help to instal a governor must one still lick his smelly ass.s all in the name of loyalty and Godfatherism.

Agreed Obaseki was an apprentice under Oshiomole government after which he Oshiomole handed over the baton of leadership to Obaseki.

LACK OF EDUCATION IS STILL WORRYING OSHIOMOLE THAT IS WHY HE IS BEHAVING LIKE AN AGBEROS DISGRACING HIMSELF ALL OVER THE COUNTRY AND CREATING CRISIS FOR APC.

It is because of his lack of education that is why Oshiomole can not even be considered for ministerial appointment.

They are not dancing to anybody's, but are just trying to prevent a recurrence in future or the likelihood of Obaseki's action being copied or adopted by other states' Governors or one day, a President would want to adopt Obaseki's style against the National Assembly

NASS has no business interfering in EDSA. The Edo Speaker should not mind the Lawan led rubberstamp senate. There is no crisis in the EDSA. It is only Oshomole and his brother that are aggrieved.

Nobody should support Oshiomhole on this afterall during elections in his time
Obaseki used to finance elections for Oshiomhole
the only option for Oshiomhole to do was to handover the power to his former financier and allow him to work
National Assembly is just busy body looking for work while theirs are pending undone
Oshiomhole should concentrate on his party as national chairman and leave Edo State alone after all he has finished his assignment

State of Emergency in Ekiti State when Fayose dey run mad.

The law requiring a state of emergency to be declared in Edo state has not happened in Edo state.

There is no need for that and even President Buhari knows that.

The state is peaceful and the natives there are going about their civic duties.

They love their governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki.

I am wondering why you should be talking about a state of emergency.

There is no crisis in Edo state.

IT IS COMRADE ADAMS OSHIOMOLE AND HIS LOYALIST IN ABUJA THAT IS HEATING UP THE SITUATION IN EDO STATE.

If Adams Oshiomole refuse to allow peace to reign in the state, PDP taking over the government in Edo state might likely be the next option.

Is that what people like Adams Oshiomole should be wishing for the state?
