Let's start at the very beginning:

CSSLP stands for certified secure software lifecycle professional, and it is a certification from (ISC)2 that focuses on application security within the software development lifecycle (SDLC). CISSP also is a certification from (ISC)2 and stands for Certified Information Systems Security Professional.

Now, to figure out which one of the two is better for you, it is advisable to match your experience and domain interest vis-s-vis the pre-requisites that are required for the certifications.

Let's have a look at the pre-requisites:

CSSLP requires to have a minimum of 4 years of cumulative paid Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) professional work experience in one or more of the eight domains of the (ISC)² CSSLP CBK.


3 years of cumulative paid SDLC professional work experience in one or more of the eight domains of the CSSLP CBK with a four-year degree leading to a Baccalaureate, or regional equivalent in Computer Science, Information Technology (IT) or related fields.

Whereas, for CISSP Training, you need 5 years of professional and relevant work experience.

ISC2 provides a one-year professional experience waiver if the candidate possesses a four-year college degree in the same field, its regional equivalent or educational eligibility as recognized under the ISC2 list.
