What Mandela Said About Sen. Kalu Before He Died (Throwback Photos)

Igbere TV has obtained this rare throwback pictures of Senate Chief Whip, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu and former President of South Africa, Nelson Mandela.

During the visit, Mandela described Kalu as a man with great passion for the downtrodden and prophesied that Kalu's love for his people will be celebrated by the entire continent in the nearest future.

The prophecy came to pass on 18th April 2013 when Kalu became the 1st black man after Nelson Mandela to address the British Parliament not as a head of state nor head of government

As at that time, Kalu told members of British parliament that in the 53 years of Nigeria’s history, an Igbo has only been head of state for six months, adding that the Igbo have the least number of states, local governments and get the least allocation and appointments.

Recall that Senator Kalu had recently, described Mandela as his Role Model and Mentor.

“He taught me how to forgive and tolerate people that offended and caused me pains,” kalu said.

Kalu said this while fielding questions from journalists at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja after he delivered a speech on “The Mandela I Know” At the University of Abuja on July 19.

He said the anti-apartheid icon shared with him several experiences he had with people during the anti-apartheid struggle especially when he was jailed in prison.

With this rare pictures of both leaders, it is crystal clear that Kalu maintained and had a great relationship with Mandela when he was alive.

Mandela was a South African anti-apartheid revolutionary, political leader, and philanthropist who served as President of South Africa from 1994 to 1999.

He was the country's first black head of state and the first elected in a fully representative democratic election.

His government focused on dismantling the legacy of apartheid by tackling institutionalised racism and fostering racial reconciliation.
