President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday lambasted Atiku Abubakar, 2019 Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate over his remarks on the report of 1,000 soldiers killed and secretly buried in the North East.

Buhari, who spoke through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, insisted that Atiku’s comment gave “him out as someone who denigrates the country’s democracy, which he was part of building, in his heyday, before unbridled ambition blinded.”

Wall Street Journal had in an article entitled, “Nigeria Buries Soldiers at Night in Secret Cemetery” alleged that the military buried soldiers in unmarked graves in the North East.

Against this backdrop, Atiku had called for the setting up of a Judicial Commission of Inquiry to investigate the claims of the secret burial of soldiers in the North East.

However, Adesina in a statement he signed said the former Vice President’s “unrelenting appeal to emotion was a gambit doomed to fail.”

He also faulted the PDP presidential candidate’s remarks on some court judgments regarding recently concluded elections in the country.

The statement forwarded to the media reads: “First, it was laughable, now it gets progressively pitiable, to see and hear efforts by presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the last general elections, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, appeal to the emotions of Nigerians, particularly members of the judiciary, perchance it would influence decision in the ongoing legal tussle over the result of the presidential poll.
