Many schools offer all their Ph.D. students a “full funding” package (i.e., a merit-based financial aid package) when they are accepted to the program. A full funding package typically includes a full-tuition scholarship and a modest annual stipend for three to five years. The anual stipends usually contains health insurance and other benefits the student might need through out the 3-5 years of study. However, program funding is based on the fact that the student maintains academic progress and meets program milestones.
In most cases, doctoral students are expected to serve as graduate teaching or research assistants in exchange for the awards. This responsibility is usually complementary to Ph.D. research and can provide valuable teaching experience. Masters students also enjoy such privileges although not as guaranteed as Ph.D. students and with more competition. Pograms that attract full funding include:
1. ENGINEERING: This includes courses in chemical, electrical, environmental and civil engineering. Full funding on these programs is usually given on academic merit. Schools that offer full finding in Engineering include University of Illinois, University of Virginia, Rutgers school of engineering, Michigan State University.
The average masters salary for Engineering is $69,698, average annual Ph.d salary is $88,397, and the average annual stipend for fully funded Engineering program is $ 26,570.
2. PHYSICAL SCIENCE: This includes programs in chemistry and physics. A school that offers full funding in physical sciences are the University of Michigan, University of California Los Angeles (UCLA)Texas at Austin.
The average masters salary for physical sciences is $72.500, average annual Ph.d salary is $96,300, and the average annual stipend for fully-funded physical science programs is $ 26,034
3. BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES: This includes programs in biology, ecology, biochemistry, and pharmacology. Schools that offer full finding in Biology sciences include University of Massachusetts Boston, University of Delaware, University of San Francisco, University of Florida.
The average master's salary for Biological Sciences is $70,080, average annual Ph.D. salary is $83,051, and the average annual stipend for fully-funded biological science programs is $ 29,540
4. ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES: schools that offer full funding in environmental sciences include the University of North Carolina, University of Virginia, University of Utah and University of Oregon.

6: COMPUTER SCIENCE: Schools that offer full finding in computer science include Harvard, Standford University, Cornell, Duke University.

7. ECONOMICS: Schools that offer full finding in economics include the University of St Louis, University of Virginia, University of Maine, George Mason University, John Hopkins University, Harvard University, Cornell University.
The average master's salary for Economics is $72,100, average annual Ph.D. salary is $110,317, and the average annual stipend for fully-funded Economics program is $22,520.
8.
